11:48 Bhavesh Hi
11:48 Bhavesh Can I integrate Dataverse on our local server  ?
11:51 Bhavesh left #dataverse
12:18 freeman hello pdurbin. :) Many Thanks, my apologies, i was idle yesterday. yes, i will come back from time to time to check out what is going on with DVN 4.0.
12:41 pdurbin freeman: cool, technically, we're calling it "Dataverse 4.0" ... we're dropping the word "network"
12:42 pdurbin hmm, I missed Bhavesh. The answer is probably yes.
12:42 pdurbin freeman: the latest thing is Shibboleth: http://datascience.iq.harvard.edu/blog/try-out-single-sign-shibboleth-40-beta
12:48 freeman pdurbin: As always, Harvard is doing an awesome job in developing this awesome software. Keep up the Great Works Guys. Thanks :) I will check out this website.
12:49 pdurbin freeman: aw shucks. glad you like it :)
12:49 freeman pdurbin: i am looking forward to using this new version for personal gain too. ;)
12:49 pdurbin oh? you have some datasets of your own?
12:50 freeman pdurbin: sadly no, no data on my own, but am thinking about somthing on the side to setup DVN as a consultant.
12:51 pdurbin ah. cool. maybe you can help us work on the installer
12:52 freeman pdurbin: sure. I am a decent Linux monkey. trying to find funds to pay for something expensive by installing Dataverse here in maryland as a consultant doesn't sound too bad, actually. i 've done it a few times so far at various palces.
12:52 freeman pdurbin: i was wodnering if Akio@UNC has been working on this software with Hardvard. i am curious.
12:53 pdurbin he's actively working away on irods integration: https://github.com/akio-sone/dvn/tree/Odum-Ext
12:54 freeman pdurbin: WOW, NICE !!!  Dr. Akio is very good Java Developer as well
12:54 pdurbin he's great
12:55 freeman pdurbin: I am glad that Harvard is working with Akio-sone to utilize his excellent Java skillz. :)
12:55 pdurbin heh
12:57 freeman pdurbin: i am asssuming long term data preservation is still done by using a plugin from LOCKSSs@Standford ? there is no other long term perservation plugins into other preservation tools from inside Dataverse 4.0?
12:58 pdurbin freeman: hmm, I haven't worked in this area... you might want to ask on the Google Group.
12:58 freeman pdurbin: i looked at DVN  as a tool for researchers to post their data and made study available to the masses with a ton or user features on embargoing certain items. At Odum when i set this up at the time, LOCKSS was the only tool available.
12:58 pdurbin https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/dataverse-community
12:59 freeman pdurbin: ok kool :)
13:03 pdurbin freeman: so you're saying you like LOCKSS, right?
13:04 freeman pdurbin: hummm..... not sure. when i worked at unc. LOCKSS has some issues, i have not worked with it since then so its been almost 3 years ago now. I am certain LOCKSS has improved since then. its a good tool. i think.
13:05 pdurbin ok, I don't know a lot about LOCKSS but it's a neat idea
13:05 freeman pdurbin: i was curious if there are others which plugs into Dataverse and preserve data for the long haul.
13:06 freeman pdurbin: i will keep Dataverse installer in mind, once i find time outside of work and school, i will tinker with the Dataverse installer.
13:08 pdurbin freeman: well, OSF can desposit data into Dataverse: https://osf.io/getting-started/#dataverse
13:10 freeman pdurbin: right, one colleague told me about them a few days ago, they are in Downtown Charlottesville, my home state. Go calvaliers. UVA. lol
13:10 pdurbin heh. I visited last year and met jeffspies and LyndsySimon. nice town. nice offices
13:12 pdurbin freeman: OJS can deposit into Dataverse too: http://datascience.iq.harvard.edu/collaborations
13:12 pdurbin I worked with axfelix on that.
13:12 freeman pdurbin: nice, C'ville is a nice place, a ton of companies or for that matter organizations are sending their data out to the clouds.  But for medical data, it might not be a good idea, everything else might be ok unless cost is high.
13:13 freeman i see. Kool.

19:54 freeman pdurbin: happy Coding, The installer Leonid has written is pretty good too, i used it to install our instance here at hopkins. I will check out what dr. Akio has written for DVN soon. Many Thanks for all the help everyone form Harvard has provided.
