12:50 pdurbin It's a holiday today and School Vacation Week for my kids so I'm taking the week off (flying to Colorado today, if we can escape all the snow in Boston). I'll catch up on any conversation in the logs when I get back.
12:50 pdurbin skay: if memory serves, last time I said you were in charge while I was gone :)
13:45 pdurbin happy to see this issue get created: Prepare for Dataverse v4.0 compatibility - https://github.com/ropensci/dvn/issues/23
14:23 skay pdurbin: it's a holiday! I'm not in charge
14:23 skay nice try
14:31 pdurbin heh
14:31 pdurbin skay: I hear Boston has gotten more snow in the last three weeks than Chicago has ever gotten in a whole season.
14:32 skay pdurbin: It sounds like a record season for you guys.
14:33 skay pdurbin: I've only experienced one or two heavy snow falls, not nearly as much
14:33 skay pdurbin: I am impressed!
14:33 pdurbin in 130 years they've never seen so much snow on the ground at some hills near us: https://twitter.com/bhobservatory/status/566973319917096960
14:34 pdurbin here's my five year old clearing off our car yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGEIe-3sHxA :)
14:35 skay aw, cute
14:36 skay today I am going to try and get my ansible stuff in shape for deploying a django site. I've only been doing it in my free time and it has trouble competing with novels
14:37 skay I have a lot done. I just need to get the nginx or uwsgi stuff working together
14:37 skay plus I"m going to a board meeting online. I am an officer in NumFOCUS. which is funny since I accepted a nomination but didn't realize I had been accepted until someone emailed asking for help
14:38 skay pdurbin: are you going to dig out of snow or go cross-country skiing?
14:40 * skay <-- relocating to coffee shop
14:41 pdurbin skay: we're going to *try* to fly to Colorado this afternoon: https://twitter.com/philipdurbin/status/566935963944112128
15:22 pdurbin skay: I could probably use some of your Django deploy know-how for https://github.com/IQSS/plaid
15:23 skay pdurbin: I was thinking maybe you are ahead of me on django deploy know-how these days
15:24 skay pdurbin: I've been doing some deployment stuff at work that uses juju and not a lot of people use it, so I am not going to push it on anyone
15:25 skay pdurbin: but, and this is cool, I can have juju and ansible work together, so I am learning ansible slowly in my spare time
15:26 skay pdurbin: at work I already had a django charm to use -- later I'd like to have a django charm that uses ansible instead of the charm I'm currently  using
15:27 skay meanwhile, I like this juju thing! It I just have to have my open stack creds in some config files for it and it spins up new machines for me like magic
15:27 skay I was really disappointed that rackspace doesn't expose the openstack apis that it needs
15:28 pdurbin skay: I just use a bunch of shell scripts. I wouldn't say I'm ahead of you. For example: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse.org/blob/master/deploy/post-build2
15:29 pdurbin skay: you should jump in #crimsonfu for ansible and deploy chatter. people there (not me) know stuff :)
15:30 skay woo, do you know any academics who would fit this? https://www.fsf.org/resources/jobs/gnunet-and-taler-free-software-hackers
15:30 skay it sounds like a really awesome cool job for people willing to move to that city in france
15:30 skay work on freedome
15:31 skay pdurbin: In my deployment life I moved from hordes of wonderful people supporting me to bash to fabric to ansible
15:31 skay with a fork that uses juju
15:31 skay bash works! it's okay until it doesn't work for you anymore
15:32 pdurbin I don't, offhand.
15:33 pdurbin the ops team here uses puppet
15:33 pdurbin and they're hosting those "plaid" apps

16:46 bencomp pdurbin: I don't want to interrupt your off-time, but I agree on what you mean by including a call to action
16:46 pdurbin bencomp: heh. no worries. haven't left for the airport yet. soon!
16:47 pdurbin bencomp: if skay won't be in charge then *YOU* will be in charge of this channel this week ;)
16:47 bencomp uhoh
16:47 pdurbin heh
16:48 bencomp I'll probably be around during Dutch office hours
16:48 bencomp but being in charge… no thanks ;)
16:49 pdurbin :)
16:49 pdurbin I'll just catch up on the logs when I get back.
16:49 * pdurbin gives iqlogbot a treat
16:51 bencomp hehe
16:53 bencomp pdurbin: I could just add "If you're interested in [auth], follow this list for more news on the CG or get in touch here or on IRC."
16:54 bencomp not in those words per se
17:05 bencomp pdurbin: sent :)
17:05 bencomp hope you have a great vacation
17:09 * pdurbin looks at [dvn-auth] Announcing the Dataverse Auth Community Group - https://lists.iq.harvard.edu/pipermail/dvn-auth/2015-February/000024.html
17:10 pdurbin bencomp: looks great! thanks!
17:11 pdurbin bencomp: and I just merged this: Link 'Ben Companjen' to CRIS profile page by bencomp · Pull Request #48 · IQSS/dataverse.org - https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse.org/pull/48
17:12 pdurbin should deploy in an hour or so
17:12 bencomp pdurbin: great way to start a vacation ;)
17:12 bencomp I'm off for a beer - unrelated to the email or merge :)
17:13 pdurbin heh
