08:45 bencomp pdurbin: fyi, I checked that my changes are not in my local develop branch and I get this: https://gist.github.com/bencomp/a6d876e086e5f4b5d9f083cb3c6b5c13
08:46 bencomp the warnings are due to Xerces being included in the classpath by dependencies specified in the pom.xml
08:47 bencomp but the build fails because of a "missing" newline after the XML declaration
10:56 pdurbin bencomp: huh. SAXParseException. I'm kind of wondering two things:
10:56 pdurbin 1. Do you get the same error if you try to build the war file from within Vagrant?
10:57 pdurbin 2. If you modify the input file on disk, the XML file, can you get the war file to build? Maybe make a pull request for this if it helps.
10:58 bencomp 1. good question, let me check and get back to you
10:58 pdurbin Vagrant will hopefully help us narrow down the differences between the Vagrant environment and your laptop at least.
10:58 bencomp 2. the test doesn't read a file, it inputs a string and checks the output string to an expected result
11:00 bencomp yeah, so far I only found a difference in JDK version (I installed the latest build 77 to see if it helped vs. build 31, but Travis uses 66) and locale (en_GB vs en_US)
11:00 bencomp meeting time!
11:04 pdurbin hmm
12:44 bencomp build succeeded in Vagrant without the Xerces warnings
12:45 bencomp I think my system uses a different parser and a different serializer
12:47 pdurbin weird
12:47 pdurbin bencomp: how is your system different than the one in Vagrant?
12:48 bencomp Mac vs CentOS for one
12:50 pdurbin Mac 10.10? 10.11?
12:50 bencomp 10.11
12:51 bencomp I've been able to build before, on this system
12:52 pdurbin has XmlPrinterTest ever worked for you?
12:52 bencomp yes
12:52 pdurbin it's pretty old. tagged in 4.2.1
12:52 bencomp then definitely yes
12:53 pdurbin I wonder why it would stop working.
12:53 bencomp I did find and remove a somewhat hidden commons-lang3 jar some time ago
12:54 bencomp that broke another project
12:54 pdurbin oh. maybe you could blow away your ~/.m2 directory (or move it aside)
12:54 bencomp I did that recently, but let me try again
12:55 bencomp I don't manage my laptop that well when it comes to packages :$
12:55 pdurbin bencomp: you might enjoy https://github.com/bmckinney/dataverse-osx-playbook
12:58 bencomp I rather not run Dataverse directly on my laptop
12:58 pdurbin oh!
12:58 pdurbin where do you run it?
12:58 bencomp but it's a great effort
12:59 bencomp Vagrant
12:59 pdurbin gotcha. we have a developer on Windows who does that (out of necessity)
13:10 bencomp okay, it seems removing the local m2 repository worked...
13:10 bencomp build success
13:10 pdurbin phew
13:13 bencomp I should have looked at the jars to see which could have caused problems
13:13 bencomp d'oh!
13:13 pdurbin I was thinking that maybe I should rewrite that test.
13:14 pdurbin Of course, I'm not scheduled to work on harvesting/export anymore. I passed this issue to someone else: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/2579#issuecomment-169094689
13:21 bencomp right. well, for now it's solved, but what I could see diving into the debugger, finding a parser/transformer is dynamic, so that might make the current test a bit vulnerable to classpath litter :)
13:25 pdurbin yeah, we don't want vulnerable tests
