13:13 pdurbin telnoratti: any pointers on getting started with https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-aws ? :)
13:15 donsizemore joined #dataverse
13:16 donsizemore @pdurbin want me to be your Google Analytics Guinea Pig? we need to do that for our new installation
13:16 donsizemore @pdurbin I can verify whatever command works on 4.5 and submit a pull request for the documentation
13:18 pdurbin donsizemore: yes, please send us a pull request for https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/3112
13:18 pdurbin donsizemore: even better would be a pull request that addresses some of https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/2944 :)
13:18 donsizemore @pdurbin is it just a curl -X PUT -d ?
13:18 pdurbin yeah
13:46 telnoratti pdurbin: Yeah, so in AWS, go to cloud formations, create a new stack and upload that .json file (the local file option). There will be a form asking for a bunch of options and settings. The only quirky one is the discovery url. The helptext should give some aid there, you'll want the size to be 3.
13:47 telnoratti The next page will ask for tags, the page after that you will need to check a box acknowledging that this stack will create IAM roles, then it should build
13:47 telnoratti It'll take about 20-30 minutes to do a fresh build
13:47 pdurbin telnoratti: thanks! I'll give it a shot once I have a login and payment or whatever set up.
13:48 telnoratti from the cloudformations page you will be able to watch progress and view resouces
13:48 telnoratti I am available most of the day if you have questions, though at 12 I'm babysitting an FE
13:48 pdurbin FE?
13:48 telnoratti field engineer
13:49 pdurbin ah, hardware problem
13:49 telnoratti we babysit them when they do maintenance on the datacenter, ever since an IBM one brought down our DB2 by accidentally unplugging everything from a PDU
13:50 donsizemore joined #dataverse
13:50 pdurbin I'll never forget the FE who did what he called a "tomahawk chop" in an effort to revive a disk that had gone bad.
13:51 telnoratti did he chuck it across the room?
13:52 donsizemore at MCNC a moving guy's elbow hit the not-covered Big Red Button one Friday afternoon. it's behind a faceplate now.
13:53 pdurbin the chop was to get the platters spinning again
13:53 pdurbin now we have the cloud... phew!
13:53 telnoratti did it work?
13:54 pdurbin I don't remember but let's pretend it did. Makes for a better story. :)
13:54 djbrooke joined #dataverse
13:54 pdurbin donsizemore: yeah, cover those buttons
13:56 pdurbin donsizemore: can you please fill in the "related issues" section at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/pull/3393 ?
13:56 donsizemore @pdurbin poop, i forgot that last time, sorry.
13:56 pdurbin donsizemore: oh, and there's new fancy waffle syntax I'd love for you to use: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/2594#issuecomment-249930681
13:57 donsizemore @pdurbin we're about to re-home our DOIs and Handles, and then I think... weekend!
13:57 pameyer joined #dataverse
13:58 pdurbin weekend?
13:59 pdurbin does that mean you're almost done?
14:02 donsizemore @pdurbin sophia and thu-mai are furiously wrestling with guestbooks, we've moved a few datasets, tweaked some booleans (3.6 allowed multiple draft versions, 4.n doesn't) but i think we're opening up the firewall today.
14:04 pdurbin huh, I didn't know 3.6 supported multiple drafts within a dataset
14:04 donsizemore @pdurbin well, it seemed to allow them. particularly when set manually via PGadmin.
14:04 pdurbin in 4.x we fixed that as a bug: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/2132
14:04 donsizemore yes.
14:09 pdurbin donsizemore: did you make sure there are no sphinx warnings? Please see https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/3181
14:27 pdurbin telnoratti: djbrooke and I are planning on giving it a whirl this afternoon. Thanks!
14:36 telnoratti cool, let me know how it goes
14:37 pdurbin will do. first step for me is to create an amazon account :)
14:59 djbrooke_ joined #dataverse
15:00 djbrooke_ joined #dataverse
15:17 telnoratti Good luck with that, VT still struggles badly with figuring out how to pay amazon
15:19 pdurbin telnoratti: I hear AWS has something called "consolidated billing".
15:20 telnoratti yeah, it seems to work great, VTTI uses, VT hasn't figured it out, but maybe that's a reflection on VT more than the difficulty of edu paying AWS

15:29 pdurbin pameyer: what's the deal with https://bitbucket.org and logging in with Google. It allowed me to create an account ( https://bitbucket.org/pdurbin/ ) but it seems like it wants to convert me to have a password instead. Bleh. Oh well, I have a password for GitHub too.
15:30 pdurbin "You're getting a sweet new Atlassian account!"
15:30 djbrooke joined #dataverse
15:31 pdurbin I'm not sure why bitbucket offers google login if in practice you can't use it.
15:34 pameyer that is a little strange
15:35 pdurbin pameyer: anyway, you have my username now. :) pdurbin
15:35 pameyer great
15:36 pameyer and you've got the same picture there too
15:38 pdurbin yeah, that's just because I have gravatar set up: http://gravatar.com

16:44 telnoratti pdurbin: by the way we're still rooting out issues in dataverse-aws, so don't a expect a perfect deployment =)

17:50 pdurbin telnoratti: heh, ok. I think we're going to give it a shot in an hour or so if you'll be around for questions. :)
17:50 pdurbin donsizemore: does https://dataverse.harvard.edu/oai?verb=Identify help?
17:51 telnoratti Yup, I'll be around
17:52 pdurbin sweet
17:57 donsizemore @pdurbin we're harvesting ICPSR and IQSS =)
17:57 pdurbin donsizemore: nice!
18:24 djbrooke joined #dataverse
18:32 pdurbin telnoratti: here's a softball question, I hope... where does it specify which version of Dataverse is being deployed? 4.5 is the latest released version.
18:33 telnoratti It's in the dockerfile itself
18:34 telnoratti We tried to keep the dataverse version independant of the stack, so you could upgrade the version without needing to rebuild the stack
18:34 telnoratti It's basically hardcoded for now, I think if we want to keep multiple active, the answer is labels
18:35 telnoratti so a dataverse:4.5 and dataverse:4.4 label
18:37 pdurbin telnoratti: oh, I see it. "v4.5" in docker/glassfish/Dockerfile and docker/solr/Dockerfile
18:37 pdurbin thanks
18:37 telnoratti yup
18:40 pdurbin v4.5/dvinstall.zip is a tagged and released installer, of course. I'd be interested in figuring out how to get all of this to work with arbitrary branches that haven't been tagged. Stuff that's very much in dev. Not merged yet.
18:40 pdurbin That is to say, a place to test stuff *before* it gets merged and tagged.
18:51 telnoratti you should be able to do a git clone and build with maven to create the image
18:51 telnoratti though obviously it would look pretty different
18:52 donsizemore joined #dataverse
18:53 pdurbin sure, build the war file with maven and then call this Makefile to create dvinstall.zip: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/blob/v4.5/scripts/installer/Makefile
18:53 pdurbin then upload dvinstall.zip somewhere, maybe S3 or something
18:53 telnoratti You could do the build while building the image, and tag it. There's another org on campus using docker for their CI work and each feature branch gets put into a docker image tagged like summit:SUM-2212
18:54 pdurbin sure, could throw the name of the branch in the name of the image or image tag or whatever
19:05 djbrooke donsizemore: you're harvesting ICPSR? Lucky! Can you share the URL you're using?
19:05 donsizemore @djbrooke we're ATTEMPTING to harvest ICPSR. p.s. can we have a phone call with Gustavo? published/unpublished dataset emergency going on here
