balo bjonnh bret bricas jeffspies______ jhand JonathanNeal karissa majest1c petrichor rhiaro sivoais skay telnoratti yoh: I just created a "who's who" spreadsheet for this channel and put names and organizations next to the nicks of the more active folks in here. If anyone objects, please let me know! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16h3jv24usMGq18495C-JA-yNcQCKiKDa65MTraNDd7k/edit?usp=sharing

No objection here
00:28
pdurbin
"more active" being a somewhat arbitrary designation by me based on a quick look at recent activity based on http://dvn-vm1.hmdc.harvard.edu/data/mysql/irclog/irclog.tsv :)
00:29
pdurbin
select strftime('%Y', day),count(*),nick from tab1 where nick != '' and nick not like '%pdurbin%' group by nick,strftime('%Y', day) order by strftime('%Y', day) desc, count(*) desc;

pdurbin
on a related note I thought maybe I'd try to eat our on dogfood a bit and play with this data at https://demo.dataverse.org/dataset.xhtml?persistentId=doi:10.5072/FK2/VAHCGY
00:31
pdurbin
to be honest, I'm not sure how to use TwoRavens very well... and I'm not sure what sort of insight I'd get from it
00:32
pdurbin
I was having slightly more luck with the new DDI Explorer (now Data Explorer) app at https://dataverse.scholarsportal.info/ddi_explore/index.html?uri=https://demo.dataverse.org/api/access/datafile/11414/metadata
00:33
pdurbin
at least I can check the box next to "nick" and click "Chart My Variables" :)
00:34
pdurbin
the SQL above is the most interesting to me though... it give me a sense of who has been active year by year
00:37
pdurbin
I'm a little annoyed that Dataverse doesn't "ingest" TSV files like the one above. I had to convert it to CSV first (I used https://github.com/brendano/tsvutils ). I'm pretty sure there's at least one open issue about this
00:40
pdurbin
found it: Support for tsv file ingest for tabular data · Issue #1912 · IQSS/dataverse - https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/1912

I'll probably add it to the topic of this channel, etc.
00:50
sivoais
pdurbin: TwoRavens allows for plotting distributions, right?
00:51
sivoais
Perhaps you can find out when different people chat?
00:51
sivoais
And their overlap could be used to figure out who chats with who?
00:52
bjonnh
pdurbin: fine with me
00:52
sivoais
Or to see if someone chats at times that are vastly different from the activity of the rest of the channel
00:54
pdurbin
sivoais: TwoRavens is awesome but over my head. Also, I couldn't get it to work with the full history of these logs but maybe you can figure out how to make it sing with just last month's logs: https://demo.dataverse.org/dataexplore/gui.html?dfId=11414
00:54
pdurbin
bjonnh: thanks, again, I'll update the topic sometime and incorporate your other suggestions as well.

ty, you too

I have troubles opening dataverse's waffle
12:35
cdsp-rmo
the oai-pmh pull request has passed the qa ?
12:36
cdsp-rmo
I also have a question about datasets's deletion : we have a strange case where we could delete over 91 datasets among 95, the last 4 couldn't be deleted, very strange
12:36
cdsp-rmo
and they aren't supposed to diverge from the others
12:37
cdsp-rmo
and by tring to use the DEL request, this is the error message we got : « Failed to delete dataset 1362 Cannot delete a released version »

14:01

probably not, but will check

cool, it would make much more sense to me
14:01

14:50
cdsp-rmo
it's perfect ! ;)
14:51
pdurbin
cdsp-rmo: ok, I thought you had a question about deleting datasets too, though
14:54
cdsp-rmo
ya
14:55
cdsp-rmo
that's all I wanted to know for oai-pmh, my bad
14:55
cdsp-rmo
still got those 4 immortals datasets
14:55
cdsp-rmo
we deaccessioned them at least
14:55
cdsp-rmo
but still, that's strange
14:56
cdsp-rmo
4 among 95, without any files or what, just text
14:56
cdsp-rmo
:S
14:56
cdsp-rmo
maybe they have a "specific" field of data, will see that, but can't right now :S
14:57
pdurbin
cdsp-rmo: you've see this, right? http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.5.1/user/dataset-management.html#deaccession-your-dataset-not-recommended
14:58
cdsp-rmo
about deaccession ?
14:58
pdurbin
yeah
14:58
cdsp-rmo
yes
14:58
pdurbin
the system is designed to prevent end users from deleting published data
14:59
pdurbin
there can still be a tombstone, a "deaccessioned" dataset
14:59
cdsp-rmo
our problem was kinda a "legal" one
14:59
pdurbin
so the DOI still goes somewhere
14:59
cdsp-rmo
some drafts were published without
14:59
cdsp-rmo
hum
14:59
cdsp-rmo
without the "ok" from some persons
14:59
pdurbin
whoops, it happens
14:59
cdsp-rmo
I deactivated on our doi's provider
15:00
pameyer joined #dataverse
15:00

superusers can "destroy" a published dataset, but I see we don't document this at http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.5.1/api/native-api.html#datasets
15:00
cdsp-rmo
I did
15:00
cdsp-rmo
I think
15:00
cdsp-rmo
I used the "death" url for the other 91
15:00
cdsp-rmo
it didn't worked for the 4 immortals I was talking about
15:01
cdsp-rmo
that's why I'm so confused
15:01
cdsp-rmo
this shouldn't be
15:02
pdurbin
I'm getting confused too.
15:03
pdurbin
cdsp-rmo: is this confusion worthy of a GitHub issue? It sounds like it to me. Please feel free to create one. Maybe docs could be improved at least.
15:04
cdsp-rmo
that's what I wanted to do, the problem is just that I don't know what to "give" as complementary info
15:05
cdsp-rmo
any db things to check or what ?
15:05
cdsp-rmo
except the log message, I have nothing really useful here
15:05
cdsp-rmo
(will ake the issue anyway)
15:05
pdurbin
cdsp-rmo: I'm confused enough at this point that I think you should write up a GitHub issue from your perspective of what you're trying to do. It sounds like you're trying to deal with data that never should have been published.
15:06
cdsp-rmo
ok
15:06

I deployed some code with some new login features (log in with ORCID, Google, and GitHub) to https://shibtest.dataverse.org if anyone would like to try these out and give feedback. No longer do we have the side-by-side shib vs. local you see at https://demo.dataverse.org/loginpage.xhtml . Instead it's a scalable login solution. Mockups etc. are linked from

17:09
pameyer
pdurbin: cool
17:09
pameyer
I went looking for where to get ORCID sandbox credentials a while back, and got interrupted before I got credentials
17:09
pdurbin
yeah, some day I'd like to test real ORCID credentials
17:10
pdurbin
as opposed to the ORCID sandbox
17:11
