pdurbin: Hey sorry couldn't come online yesterday. You have time today?
14:32
pdurbin
dataverse-user: sure, you were asking about ports and such

I want to change base URL for my DV instance to https://domain:80/dataverse

pdurbin
dataverse-user: can you achieve this by reconfiguring nginx?
14:56
dataverse-user
pdurbin: like doing a URL rewrite to remove dataverse and then forward requests?
14:58
pdurbin
dataverse-user: well, in Apache I can proxy an an app to wherever I want, I think. One sec.

pdurbin
dataverse-user: here, check out `ProxyPass / ajp://localhost:8009/` at http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.6/installation/shibboleth.html#edit-apache-ssl-conf-file
14:59
pdurbin
I *think* could change this to `ProxyPass /dataverse ajp://localhost:8009/` and then the app would be served at https://domain:80/dataverse like you want.

I doubt if that will work. Nginx will forward request that will contain /dataverse in URL and Glassfish won't support that as Dataverse is configured to run on '/' by default.

pdurbin: Anyways let me give it a try, I will get back to you in some time.

pameyer: Mornin'. I'm about to push a commit I'd like you to review.

pdurbin: morning
16:48
pameyer
got a link?
16:49
pdurbin
pameyer: the main thing to look at is the JSON example I added to native-api.rst: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/commit/b622694
16:51
pameyer
looks good to me
16:52
pdurbin
pameyer: you should also be able to populate affiliation and position but I haven't tested it. Obviously, I added this API endpoint to help with your migration.
16:53
pameyer
it'll help for that - could also help with ongoing new users post-migration
16:53
djbrooke
Hey pdurbin - now that this endpoint exists, could it be used to allow users to be added on the admin dashboard?
16:55
pameyer
are you thinking this endpoint for affiliation etc, or a different endpoint?
16:55
pdurbin
pameyer: same endpoint, just a couple more fields for JSON . I only documented the required ones.
16:56
pameyer
is this something that might be use for non-creation things?
16:56
pdurbin
djbrooke: forever sysadmins have been able to create builtin users via API . This new API allows sysadmins to create shib and oauth users, which really only makes sense in a migration scenario, I think.

Whenever I hear about an admin dashboard that handles user accounts I think of this (closed) issue: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/2029

The kinder, gentler version is https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/2667
17:04
pdurbin
pameyer: what sort of non-creation things? You can already use that "authenticatedUsers" endpoint to list and delete.

pdurbin: I was wondering if there were other cases where it'd be helpful for changing affiliation, etc. Don't know if authenticateduser endpoint does this (sounds like it does)
18:09
pdurbin
Oh. No, it doesn't. It's add only. Not edit.
