15:22 pameyer do folks usually prefer sword or native for creating test datasets?
15:29 pdurbin pameyer: when I use native JSON I always create the same dataset because it takes a lot of JSON to create a dataset. SWORD doesn't require much XML to create a dataset... just a few lines.
15:30 pdurbin I think we should have a friendlier way to create datasets with JSON. A stripped down version that doesn't require so much JSON.
15:30 pameyer pdurbin: thanks - I had started off with SWORD, but triggered a exception with a relatively minimal xml
15:31 pameyer problem may be on my end - I haven't tried demo.dataverse or dv.sbgrid yet
15:31 pdurbin pameyer: hmm, yes, please try it on the demo site or dev1. You shouldn't get a 500 error!
15:32 pdurbin This issue shows a proposed "clean version" with more minimal JSON for creating a dataset. It's just an idea at this point: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/3068
17:18 pameyer pdurbin: confirmed that SWORD problems were my fault
17:47 pdurbin phew
17:47 pdurbin pameyer: if you ever get a 500 error on the demo server, please feel free to open an issue
17:47 pameyer will do
17:48 pameyer the docs about putting the contact email into sword could probably do with a better example; but for testing that doesn't matter so much
17:48 pameyer and real SWORD users probably know already :)
18:03 pdurbin huh, yeah I'm looking at http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.6/api/sword.html and I agree it's a little confusing how one would add an email address to a dataset as a contact
18:08 pdurbin pameyer: it must get added automatically. It's been a while since I looked at this.
18:13 pdurbin yeah, swordService.addDatasetContact(newDatasetVersion, user)
18:14 pdurbin looks like the user who issues the create via SWORD becomes the dataset contact

18:42 pameyer <dcterms:contributor type="Contact">foo@example.com</dcterms:contributor> didn't break the API
18:42 pameyer didn't test to see if it worked or not.  I'm only looking at it to create a bunch of test datasets to test out the collection stuff
18:42 pameyer and I think it's working well enough for that
18:44 pdurbin pameyer: ok, lemme know if it works :)
18:47 pdurbin skay: I mentioned DataFest yesterday and these folks have a table there: https://envirodatagov.org
18:47 pdurbin skay: seems to relate to what you were saying at http://irclog.iq.harvard.edu/dataverse/2017-01-05#i_46790
18:50 skay pdurbin: you are right... someone started a working group for it at chihacknight too. I hadn't heard of them before that
18:51 skay pdurbin: https://github.com/chihacknight/breakout-groups/issues/69
18:53 pdurbin cool
