@pameyer I hadn't heard of JKmount - Google sez it's a tomcat thing? (as you suggest, may be specific for LetsEncrypt but I thought they just handed out free certs)
15:53
pameyer
glad it wasn't just me who'd missed it :)
15:53
pameyer
that one reminded me of some more general apache/glassfish tune-up I had on my list
15:54
donsizemore
@pameyer I think it might go in as a prerequisites-1.5 page?
15:54
pdurbin
ah, you're talking about https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/4392
15:55
pdurbin
I hadn't heard of JKMount either.
15:55
pameyer
not sure about prerequisites-1.5 - I'm developing a tendency to think in terms of "here's an example / recommended / commented config file" than "improve guides"
15:55
pameyer
which may or may not be a good thing
15:55
pameyer
any interest in http compression configs?
15:56

Did you see https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/4382 ? I'm tempted to try to turn that issue into a bit of a reorg of the Installation Guide.
15:56
pameyer
only tangentially noticed 4382 - re-skimming
15:57
pameyer
pdurbin: that already looks like a reorg of the installation guide
15:58
pdurbin
Yeah, right now the scope is moving stuff from the Installation Guide to the Admin Guide. I guess that's a reorg of sorts.
15:59
pdurbin
The thing I'm wondering is if I should make another "reorg" google doc, a list of bullets that we can organizing into a hierarchy that makes more sense than what we have right now.
16:01
pdurbin
pameyer: it looks like you left comments on the last "reorg" doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GLky44JbtCNhGuavLXGEP8WPNdjbyHNxalEGjR78MaA/edit?usp=sharing . Thanks!

another day, another example of why trusting my memory is a bad idea
16:02
pameyer
I'd forgotten that existed, nevermind that I'd commented on it
16:02
pdurbin
Honesting, I was thinking that that google doc was before your time, pameyer :)

You've been with us for a while now! Thanks for hanging in there. :)

cent7/el7 in vagrant looks like it needs a little more work. inside the VM , things appear to be working - but external access isn't happy
19:01
pdurbin
pameyer: you tried the code in https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/pull/4385 ?

19:02
pameyer
had to tweak the vagrant file to pick up the box, but that was relatively minor
19:02
pameyer
multi-box vagrant config could also arguably use the upgrade
19:02
pdurbin
pameyer: ok, I'd say you should go ahead and push your fix. We're all friends here. :)
19:03
pameyer
pdurbin, donsizemore: will do
19:03
pdurbin
thanks
19:05
pdurbin
pameyer: At some point we should figure out an easy way to allow folks like Don to push to pull requests we make.
19:05
pameyer
pdurbin: maybe a world-writable iqss dataverse fork?
19:06
pameyer
or a better way, whatever that may be
19:07
pdurbin
Hmm. Maybe.

@pameyer so vagrant still wouldn't pull that box for you? anyway, thanks for the tweak
20:06
pdurbin
donsizemore: can you remind me of what we decided about a base box from puppetlabs vs centos itself?
20:19
pameyer
donsizemore: after I changed the format I could pull it
20:23
pameyer
format of the vagrant file, I meant
20:25
donsizemore
@pdurbin you and i each preferred the vanilla centos box, but switching to it Broke Everything (vbox mounts in particular) so i punted and used the puppet 7 box
20:25
pdurbin
donsizemore: ah, ok. Thanks.

I tried the cento/7 box too - hit the same vboxfs problem
20:32
donsizemore
@pameyer that makes me feel better
20:43
pdurbin
donsizemore: how much more hacking on that branch are you planning?
20:48
donsizemore
@pdurbin none, until i know what else i might've missed, el6/el7-wise? i thought you all moved it out of code review because there were more places to touch
20:50
pdurbin
donsizemore: well, at first I was thinking that maybe you could look at my Docker stuff but then I took that back because it's so weird and complicated and dependent on running minishift. I think I may take a swing at that. And I'd like to tweak the docs to remove references to el6. Or at least emphasize that we recommend el7.
20:51
pameyer
it seemed to me like it hit most of the touchpoints for el6/el7 - but there may be some guide-related areas that I don't know aobut
20:52
pameyer

20:53
pdurbin
makes sense
20:53
pdurbin
donsizemore: so you're done. I'll take it from here.
20:53
pdurbin
thanks for kicking off that effort!
20:58
donsizemore
eh, it's a start.
20:59
pdurbin
:)
21:11
pdurbin
donsizemore: I'm an idiot. pameyer just pointed out that my Minishift/Docker stuff is already el7. Good! :)
