15:44 pdurbin soU: after we make the next release I may want to reply to this old message and explain the new way to get the API terms of use: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/dataverse-community/Lhnzmlcr3GQ/-lRlPRUmAQAJ
15:46 soU pdurbin: yes, or after the release i'll say something there
15:47 pdurbin sure, sounds good. I'm not sure when the next release will be

16:32 bjonnh pdurbin: somehow… it happened that we have someone that got hired to develop a university-wide data repository
16:32 bjonnh pdurbin: but I don't have much more information on who, what, where… so it did put stuff a bit in standby
17:21 pdurbin bjonnh: interesting. From scratch?
17:56 bjonnh I have no idea yet
17:56 bjonnh I need to gather some intel on that
17:58 pdurbin bjonnh: heh. Ok. No worries. I'm just wondering if I should still have you listed under "Docker support" in this "Dev Efforts by the Dataverse Community" spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pl9U0_CtWQ3oz6ZllvSHeyB0EG1M_vZEC_aZ7hREnhE/edit?usp=sharing

18:55 bjonnh not that I did much… but yeah you can keep me there, I'm still interested
18:58 pdurbin bjonnh: ok. And how interested are you in Dataverse on OpenShift or Kubernetes? I'm asking because we're starting to hack on this again. For example, last week danmcp worked on https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/pull/4450 and I merged it and tested it.
19:16 bjonnh I'm somewhat less interested, because I don't have any kubernetes setup

19:20 pdurbin bjonnh: ok. I forget if I pointed you at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/pull/4370 by pameyer. That pull request was all about Docker. Nothing about OpenShift or Kubernetes. Anyway, the spreadsheet still says "early days" and I guess I'm wondering what our goal is or whatever for "Docker support". :)
19:21 pameyer I also don't have a kubernetes setup
19:21 bjonnh well it seemed that some people had some kind of kubernetes setup
19:22 bjonnh and if it can be deployed with minishift or whatever make a single command deploy…
19:22 bjonnh I was interested in docker initially to be able to get quick rebuilds to add that zip thing that would avoid double zipping
19:22 bjonnh I just tried to shave to many yaks probably
19:23 pdurbin heh
19:23 pdurbin bjonnh: do you're saying you were interested in using Docker in a dev context? To hack on Dataverse?
19:23 bjonnh yes
19:23 bjonnh that's what started that whole thing I'm afraid .p
19:23 bjonnh (for me)
19:24 pameyer ah - for dev, 4370 might be helpful
19:24 pdurbin pameyer: do you think your all-in-one Docker thing is suitable for this? For helping developers hack on Dataverse? I think of it more as a way to run the API test suite.
19:25 pameyer I think that using the dvinstall option for that one, probably forwarding some ports to the container, and using a volume for the glassfish logs; *should* work for dev
19:26 pameyer short version - not directly usable for this, but not many changes would be needed to get there
19:26 pameyer with the caveat that I have no idea how to make any netbeans integration work
19:27 pdurbin pameyer: ok. Good to know. It sounds like bjonnh may not want to use your all-in-one Docker thing for dev any time soon but if someone else comes along, we can ask them to try it.
19:29 pameyer pdurbin: sounds reasonable. but the existing all-in-one might need some work before someone tries to use it for dev
19:29 pameyer of course, I'm deep in jdb now - that might inspire me
19:30 pdurbin deep in jdb for dataverse stuff?
19:30 pameyer yup
19:30 pdurbin yikes
19:31 pameyer error handling for createDataset API is telling me that my new exporter is producing invalid JSON; but not very helpful in telling me where the error is
19:31 pameyer null exceptions are like that
19:38 pdurbin :(
19:46 pameyer yeah; it's a place that I'd be very happy to see improved
19:52 pdurbin Is there any tracking of the issue?
19:54 pameyer I don't have issue numbers handy, but think general "sharp edges" of the APIs have been talked about before
19:54 pameyer and not just me ;)
19:55 pdurbin they will cut you
19:59 pameyer yup
