@pdurbin knock knock?
14:46
pdurbin
hey there donsizemore
14:46
donsizemore
4.8.6 top-of-your-head question?
14:47
pdurbin
It's out! https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/releases/tag/v4.8.6
14:47
donsizemore
i'm running it. but my DDI-Explorer is unhappy
14:47
pdurbin
Uh oh.
14:47
donsizemore
a separate instance I built from the DDI-Explorer issue-branch was fine
14:48
donsizemore
but 4.8.6 isn't populating the dataverse URL / api/access/datafile/n/metadata/ddi bit
14:48
donsizemore
the datafile in question is behind a guestbook, as many of ours are (i'm re-indexing, so testing off what i can find)
14:49
donsizemore
but if i manually reconstruct the URL DDI Explorer is happy. the JSON and resulting DB entry look right as best I can tell.
14:49
donsizemore
i can open an issue, just didn't know if you had heard other such reports
14:50
donsizemore
so, for instance 4.8.6 generates https://nevermore.irss.unc.edu/ddi-explorer/?uri=7183460 instead of https://nevermore.irss.unc.edu/ddi-explorer/?uri=https://dataverse-test.irss.unc.edu/api/access/datafile/7183460/metadata/ddi
14:50
pdurbin
Well, let's double check some things. I'm going to start at http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.8.6/installation/external-tools.html#inventory-of-external-tools
14:51
pdurbin
The inventory of external tools links to https://github.com/scholarsportal/Dataverse-Data-Explorer
14:51
pdurbin
and it says to download https://scholarsportal.github.io/Dataverse-Data-Explorer/dataExplorer.json
14:52
donsizemore
i only feed dataverse the external tool JSON , no :DDI-Explorer setting to pop through curl
14:52
pdurbin
34abc09d46215b768798e3ee44778c8f dataExplorer.json
14:53
donsizemore
@pdurbin thank you, as always. we modified the query parameters to match some stuff akio did here
14:53
donsizemore
@pdurbin user error as always. but i appreciate your help!
14:53
pdurbin
Do you have the same md5 for dataExplorer.json as above?
14:53
pdurbin
oh, you just fixed it donsizemore ?
14:54
donsizemore
i'm about to, i think. if you ever have an opening for "stupid user software tester" i'll be your top candidate
14:54
pdurbin
Heh, I call it "talking to the bear": http://wiki.greptilian.com/programming/talking-to-the-bear
14:55
donsizemore
i'm approaching "stab the bear" territory
14:55
pdurbin
lol
14:56
donsizemore
actually, it's no happier with those parameters
14:57
donsizemore
now it's generating https://nevermore.irss.unc.edu/ddi-explorer/?fileid=7183460&siteUrl=https://dataverse-test.irss.unc.edu
14:57
pdurbin
Does your dataExplorer.json have the same MD5 as above?
14:58
donsizemore
their example lacks a "type" which dataverse requires
14:58
donsizemore
( "type": "explore",)
14:59
pdurbin
Hmm, you're right.
14:59
pdurbin
donsizemore: can you please open an issue at https://github.com/scholarsportal/Dataverse-Data-Explorer/issues ?
15:01
donsizemore
yes, once i get my test ddi-explorer happy =)
15:01
donsizemore
also dataverse isn't opening the external tool in a new tab/window but i suppose that's super-minor
15:02
pdurbin
Sometimes it does. It depends. It's a bug. One sec.
15:02
donsizemore
ain't no thang
15:03
pdurbin
donsizemore: please see "known issues" at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/3657#issuecomment-359862931
15:03
pdurbin
Right, right, it depends on if there's a popup or not.
15:04
pdurbin
Please feel free to open an issue about this at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues if you want. It's a bug on the Dataverse side.
15:05
donsizemore
@pdurbin issue about the separate window / pop-up, or the URL construction? if the latter i may start with a support ticket to limit my embarrassment
15:06
pdurbin
The separate window popup bug is on the Dataverse side. The dataExplorer.json file is provided by each tool so you'd file a bug on the Data Explorer repo if it doesn't work.
15:07
pdurbin
I can track down the commit where I deleted dataExplorer.json from the Dataverse git repo if that helps. That's what I was using to test.
15:09
pdurbin
donsizemore: here it is: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/commit/db4f953

@pdurbin you've got a fileid, siteurl, and a key!
15:12
donsizemore
let me go get my food from the micah-nave and i'll try thta
15:12

15:14
donsizemore
and your first fileid is capitalized (theirs isn't)
15:16
donsizemore
yup, using your example makes it happy. so this should go in the issue to update their example? (or would you like an example for the Dataverse docs?)
15:16
pdurbin
We don't want it in the Dataverse docs. We want each external tool to provide their own installation instructions. We just link to those instructions from the Dataverse docs.
15:17
pdurbin
So it would be awesome if you would open an issue at https://github.com/scholarsportal/Dataverse-Data-Explorer/issues
15:19
donsizemore
heh. yeah, i re-read that and figured you wouldn't want a PR to put back what your commit removed =) will follow up with scholarsportal. thanks

soitanly! p.s. the re-index memory leak is a wonderful fix. i just nuked and re-indexed odum's entire dataverse and i'm only at 10G

Nice. I just let Leonid know.
15:46
donsizemore
so, solr 7?
15:47
pdurbin
Yeah, I was just looking at your dataverse-ansible repo. Want me to create an issue?
15:48

15:50
donsizemore
fine by me. so we'll switch it to solr 7, and i'll snitch the updated schema.xml from the IQSS branch?
15:52
pdurbin
Sort of. There are two XML files we require now. Basically, you'd be getting the ansible code ready for the next release of Dataverse after 4.8.6 (probably 4.9).
15:53
donsizemore
which reminds me, i need to bump it to 4.8.6
15:53
pdurbin
Probably more important to bump to 4.8.6 first. But I can create an issue about Solr 7 if you want.
15:53
donsizemore
i can do that (and will start testing, though it may well be tomorrow)
15:55
pdurbin
Cool. We can wait on the Solr 7 issue. It'll come up naturally when the next release comes out. Up to you.
16:11
donsizemore
@pdurbin well, as you well know i like to break stuff!
16:11
