The separate window popup bug is on the Dataverse side. The dataExplorer.json file is provided by each tool so you'd file a bug on the Data Explorer repo if it doesn't work.

I can track down the commit where I deleted dataExplorer.json from the Dataverse git repo if that helps. That's what I was using to test.

We don't want it in the Dataverse docs. We want each external tool to provide their own installation instructions. We just link to those instructions from the Dataverse docs.

Sort of. There are two XML files we require now. Basically, you'd be getting the ansible code ready for the next release of Dataverse after 4.8.6 (probably 4.9).
