13:40 cthao Hi, yesterday I was trying to run install and it didn't work. I switched network, connected to VPN, and nothing seems to work so far
13:41 cthao I tried configuring postfix, using smtp.gmail.com, and a bunch of other things

13:49 pameyer hi cthao - have you tried turning off selinux?

13:58 cthao but it seems like the issue comes from something else. I have an smtp running locally
14:00 pameyer assuming that local smtp is working (aka - using CLI mail/mailx is working), that would suggest checking firewall rules and selinux.  but this isn't a problem I've run into before
14:02 pameyer fyi - most of the folks that are usually in this channel are in a meeting today and the rest of the week; so replies might be somewhat sporadic
14:03 cthao no problem
14:03 cthao which firewall rule should I look out for?
14:03 pameyer for testing, I'd try turning it off entirely.  if that doesn't solve the problem, there's not point debugging firewall rules
14:10 cthao turned selinux and firewall off, same issue
14:11 pameyer well, reducing sources of error.  you've confirmed that smtp is working locally, right?
14:11 cthao yes, and I tried smtp.gmail.com as well as other smtp servers too
14:13 pameyer do any of the email addresses used during the installation have special characters or valid-but-unusual formatting?
14:14 cthao no, all characters and numbers
14:15 cthao is there a way I can make it not ask about the smtp server?
14:15 cthao I just need to test something
14:15 pameyer pdurbin mentioned yesterday (possibly after you'd left the channel) that you should be able to edit the install script and remove the check
14:16 pameyer so if you comment out that section, that should work
