14:35 poikilotherm HI @pdurbin
14:35 poikilotherm Hope you had a great long weekend :-)
14:49 poikilotherm pdurbin: I have a pile of questions on my desk... Any chance we can discuss those and you decide if I should open issues for them?
15:00 pdurbin poikilotherm: hi! Yes, nice trip to my friend's place in Brooklyn where we had turducken and brought the kids to the new spy museum and the aquarium. The answer is probably going to be to please open issues but please go ahead. :)
15:01 poikilotherm Turducken sounds good... Glad you had a great time :-)
15:02 poikilotherm About my questions: they relate to the Payara stuff, to EJB Timers and XML Parsers
15:02 poikilotherm Easy things first....
15:03 poikilotherm You added in commit c9da26b5 back in 2014 the system property javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory=com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl
15:04 poikilotherm Reading the commit message, there seemed to be some trouble, but I couldn't find a proper bug report in #235
15:04 poikilotherm Seems like back in those days, there was some feature missing from the shipped parser
15:05 poikilotherm Was this ever tried to be removed? The only Xerces dep I could find in pom.xml was about excluding it from dep management for SWORD stuff
15:06 poikilotherm As time has passed by, this may just work now and the option could be stripped out. And of course a test case would be great... ;-) As noted: I couldn't fully understand what the issue was...
15:06 poikilotherm That's my first one :-D
15:08 * pdurbin looks at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/commit/c9da26b5
15:14 pdurbin poikilotherm: I just sent you an email with a subject of "SAXParserFactory asadmin" from a conversation back thn in 2014. I hope it helps.
15:15 donsizemore joined #dataverse
15:15 poikilotherm Ah, thx :-)
15:15 poikilotherm Will read that later ;-)
15:17 poikilotherm Next question... More complicated. Summary first: is there some kind of hard requirement to use PERSISTANT EJB timers? Wouldn't non-persistant be sufficient?
15:17 poikilotherm I am asking because currently you need a database setup in Glassfish (plus more options in Payara) for those.
15:18 poikilotherm It would be really cool to skip those if not necessary, as it reduced headaches for #5292
15:18 pdurbin I don't know. Leonid is our EJB timer guru. I tend to document the setup of cron jobs hitting API endpoints periodically because I understand cron well enough.
15:19 poikilotherm Ok. "Open an issue" it is?
15:19 pdurbin yes, please
15:19 poikilotherm Yes Sir :-)
15:19 poikilotherm On to the next section, Payara.
15:20 poikilotherm (And Glassfish)
15:20 poikilotherm I would be glad if we could discuss this stuff with the devs... Do you see any chances that a contact besides email can be made?
15:21 poikilotherm If it helps - joining a VC would be ok with me
15:21 pdurbin poikilotherm: here's a forum you can post to: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/dataverse-dev
15:23 poikilotherm Alright... I bend my knee and hope that they will catch up...
15:23 pdurbin poikilotherm: that reminds me, I've been talking with Courtney from TDL about Gitter in the consortium "vision" document at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1w2iItBMuBXbPweGCoNE4QqYlE-JySeIHts0aWxeSN2Q/edit?usp=sharing
15:24 pdurbin that doc is linked from this new website: http://dataversecommunity.global
15:25 pdurbin which was announced at https://groups.google.com/d/msg/dataverse-community/ALQVSZTWQz4/MOWI9se1AgAJ
15:25 poikilotherm That reminds me about a comment of a colleague about Gitter...
15:26 poikilotherm He is using Gitter for about 1.5 years now with a group of about 20 people
15:26 poikilotherm And his statement was "Gitter s..x"
15:26 poikilotherm Three reasons
15:27 poikilotherm Availibilty indicators are defunct in Web, App and Client
15:27 poikilotherm People are almost always shown as "Away"
15:28 poikilotherm Message notifications apart from email reminders are mostly defunct
15:28 poikilotherm And the read status is often not changing despite read... Even F5 doesn't always work
15:29 poikilotherm This might be no big deal, but working together has been slowed down by that
15:29 poikilotherm (errr... "that" = all three reasons above)

16:49 pdurbin those are good reasons

22:13 poikilotherm pdurbin: I just sent a long email to dataverse-dev about the Payara vs Glassfish tale
22:15 poikilotherm https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/dataverse-dev/L6rNXbbZG0o/UFVfI0_gAQAJ
22:27 pdurbin poikilotherm: wow, that is long. Thanks. I'm heading to a burrito place but I'll read it in line. :)
22:27 poikilotherm :-D
22:28 poikilotherm Burritos...
22:28 poikilotherm Mjami
22:28 poikilotherm Yes it is long. I tried to elaborate the hole thing. That's why I was asking for a direct contact... :-D
22:29 poikilotherm Cu tomorrow then
22:29 poikilotherm (I'm off to bed now)
