donsizemore: mornin. I can close https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-ansible/issues/34 right?
13:37
donsizemore
@pdurbin i haven't had time to test solr as installed by the role, but if you're happy with it, absolutely
13:38
pdurbin
I'm happy. Thanks! Closing.

Can we close https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-ansible/issues/25 too?

Quick question ? UVa upgrading from 4.8.6 to 4.9 - after updating Solr get the following error: "Failed to determine the port of a local Solr instance, cannot create collection1". Any suggestions?
16:37
pdurbin
Sherry: hi! So you're at the "create collection1 step". Hmm.

sherry35: while you're here, any news on OSF?
16:41
sherry35
how do we know if new version is up & running (correctlt)?
16:41
sherry35
Haven't had time to talk to OSF, but it is on my (long) list todo.
16:42

sherry35: You can try this: https://demo.dataverse.org/api/version
16:42
pdurbin
whoops!
16:42
pdurbin
I meant this: https://demo.dataverse.org/api/info/version
16:43
sherry35
What about if new solr is working?
16:43
pdurbin
I would suggest creating a dataverse. If there's no error you're probably fine.
16:44
pdurbin
You can also query what's in Solr directly with something like this: curl -s 'http://localhost:8983/solr/collection1/select?rows=1000000&wt=json&indent=true&q=*%3A*'
16:44
pdurbin
that's from https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/blob/v4.9/scripts/search/query#L2
16:45
pdurbin
You'll need to reindex, also. The Solr you just installed will be empty.

we got data from the curl cmd
16:48
pdurbin
great
16:48
sherry35
How do we tell which "solr" we have?
16:49
sherry35
our solr command (curl above) was not empty.
16:50
pameyer
`ps aux | grep solr` show include the path to the running solr process
16:50
pameyer
that usually has the version name in it
16:50
pameyer
"show include" -> "should include"
16:50
pdurbin
I just googled and found this too: curl http://localhost:8983/solr/admin/info/system
16:52
pameyer
that's probably better
16:52
sherry35
Our system is still using old one 4.6.X
16:53
pdurbin
I was gonna say, your new installation of Solr won't have any data in it until you reindex.
16:53
sherry35
Ok, just found old process still running. Now it is stopped and retrying solr 7 install.
16:54
sherry35
YES!!!! we have a new solr!!!
16:55
sherry35
jetty for old solr was still running - we forgot that that needed to be killed before re-insall
16:56
pdurbin
Gotcha. Makes sense.

pameyer: I'm in Don's Ansible code. Hope I'm not breaking things: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-ansible/pull/36
19:35

at first glance, that looks reasonable to me
19:35
pdurbin
phew
19:35
pdurbin
I mean, I could have just bashed on master but I figured I'd make a pull request before merging it. :)
19:36
pameyer
keep in mind I don't know enough about the guts of dataverse-ansible to know for sure though
19:36
pdurbin
I tested it. Works on my EC2 instance. :)
19:36
pameyer
then it's reasonable and unbroken ;)

Are you planning on installing Counter Processor some day?
19:37
pameyer
not currently planning on it
19:38
pdurbin
ok, I betcha Jim will have to install it since Sebastian opened the Make Data Count issue.
19:38
pameyer
data model for MDC doesn't account for local compute or distributed downloads, and I'd rather not have numbers than have numbers I know are wrong
19:39
pdurbin
right
19:39
pameyer
hmm - dataverse-ansible is installing counter processor now, right
19:39
pdurbin
well, not by default
19:39
pdurbin
you have to set a boolean to true
19:40
pameyer
no virtualenv :(
19:41
pameyer
may not matter, but lack of virtualenv's has bitten me before
19:42
pdurbin
I haven't looked but I believe you.
19:42
pdurbin
From my perspective, main.py is on disk and I can run it. :)
19:44

on a VM that's never going to be upgrade, not a problem
