12:47 poikilotherm Morning guys :-)
12:47 pdurbin mornin
12:48 poikilotherm pdurbin: at which hotel do you stay in Berlin? Planning my trip right now and thinking about staying at the conference hotel
12:50 pdurbin poikilotherm: nice! I have two nights near FU and two nights in Mitte.
12:50 pdurbin Harnack House: http://osd.mpdl.mpg.de
12:51 poikilotherm FU?
12:51 poikilotherm Friedrich Uni?
12:51 poikilotherm Äh sry "Freie Uni"?
12:52 pdurbin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_University_of_Berlin
12:52 poikilotherm YEah ;-)
12:52 poikilotherm I'll give them a call at Harnack House if there is a room still available
12:53 pdurbin Cool. On Wed and Thu night I'll be at https://www.hsh-mitte.de/en/
12:54 pdurbin Meeting with Open Source Design folks at WikiBär at 7pm Thursday night: https://discourse.opensourcedesign.net/t/meetup-feb-7-2019-in-berlin/817
12:54 pdurbin Flying home Friday.
12:55 poikilotherm Ok :-) Will fly in on Tuesday morning, sleep overnight and fly back on Wednesday evening
12:55 poikilotherm My wife would kill me otherwise :-D
12:55 pdurbin I hear that.
12:55 pdurbin It'll be great to meet up!
12:55 poikilotherm Got a room :-)
12:56 pdurbin nice
12:56 poikilotherm Yeah, looking forward to it :-)
12:57 pdurbin Do you want to look at my slides? I'm actively editing them so they're subject to change.
13:15 poikilotherm Later, ok? Need to organize the hole thing first... ;-)
13:15 poikilotherm Are you staying Monday - Tuesday at Harnack, too?
13:15 poikilotherm Thinking about flying on late Monday evening...
13:16 poikilotherm But I am not sure if you, for example, would be around at the time or sleeping because of Jet-Lag ;-)
13:17 pdurbin I'll be at Harnack Monday and Tuesday night.
13:31 poikilotherm Great.
13:31 poikilotherm I just booked Monday night, too
13:32 poikilotherm Instead of getting out of the house at 5:30am on Tuesday, I will just have a good night at the hotel and register for the conference recovered and relaxed
13:33 pdurbin perfect
13:34 poikilotherm Hmm propably that should be "leaving the house" instead of "getting out"
13:35 pdurbin I'm flying Sunday night. During the Superbowl, as it turns out. And the Patriots are playing.
13:35 poikilotherm Oh oh
13:35 poikilotherm Hope they have good TV onboard ;-)
13:35 pdurbin fingers crossed
13:36 poikilotherm Do you feel like meeting on Monday evening could be good idea? Then I would take an earlier flight...
13:37 pdurbin Sure. My flight lands at 10:25 Monday morning. Red eye. So I'll have most of that day.
14:01 poikilotherm Ok looks like I need to take the late flight anyway... Kids...
14:01 poikilotherm Will be there around 2300
14:02 pdurbin pretty late
14:02 pdurbin good time for a beer :)
14:03 poikilotherm *G*
14:03 poikilotherm Better use some caffeine...
14:03 pdurbin beer with hints of coffee
14:04 poikilotherm *brrr*
14:04 poikilotherm Sounds very nutrious
14:04 poikilotherm +ti
14:05 pdurbin poikilotherm: oh, can you please read through https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/5412 and comment and maybe add a review to the pull request?
14:10 donsizemore joined #dataverse
14:34 pdurbin donsizemore: morning! Would you like me to give the 37_sample_data branch a try?
14:37 donsizemore @pdurbin good morning — you can see how far i got, and if you approve i'll finish heading down that path
14:39 pdurbin Cool. I put a bug in Mike's ear about it yesterday. We'll probably give it a spin today. Do you think we should add a feature to the ec2 create script to override "master" as the branch from dataverse-ansible?
14:42 poikilotherm pdurbin: just added a review to #5487
14:43 pdurbin ah, nice catch on that typo
14:48 pdurbin poikilotherm: fixed in 5de567d. Thanks! Did you see my comment about how I think an update to the guides might be nice?
14:48 pdurbin oh, you wrote about that already
14:48 poikilotherm ;-)
14:50 pdurbin poikilotherm: if you don't mind... can you please comment on the issue? Unfortunately, we are somewhat blind to conversation on pull requests.
14:50 poikilotherm *G* I know...
14:50 pdurbin I know it's weird. Sorry.
14:50 poikilotherm And inconsistent
14:51 poikilotherm Lots of review comments on PRs
14:52 pdurbin Part of the blindness is due to how comments on issues go into Slack but comments on pull requests do not.
14:52 poikilotherm And to me using the review function of GH makes sense... ;-)
14:52 poikilotherm Oh ok. Then I'll just add a comment that I added a review and mention the docs
14:53 pdurbin Thank you! Again, I'm sorry this is so odd.

15:39 pdurbin donsizemore: do you want the error here or in the issue?
15:50 donsizemore @pdurbin oh, i'm going to hammer on that, at some point. how did things look thus far (options)
15:50 pdurbin donsizemore: fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"msg": "The task includes an option with an undefined variable. The error was: 'dict object' has no attribute 'sampledataverses'\n\nThe error appears to have been in '/home/centos/dataverse/tasks/dataverse-sampledata-examples.yml': line 9, column 3
15:51 donsizemore oh. lemme check the example group_vars files i pushed. i'll put that on my list.
15:56 pdurbin thanks
16:08 pameyer https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/3848 :(
16:14 pdurbin pameyer: Sphinx trouble?
16:15 pameyer 1.1.3 produces invalid html
16:16 pameyer not more broken than it has been; just first time I tried to use a validator to make sure my rst/sphinx changes were good
16:17 pdurbin I'm using 1.2.1 on my laptop.
16:18 pameyer from their changelog, 1.3b1 got rid of the depreciated '<tt>'
16:19 pdurbin huh
16:49 pdurbin andrewSC bjonnh bricas donsizemore jri pameyer pmauduit xarthisius the community call is in 10 minutes: https://dataverse.org/community-calls
16:55 pmauduit sorry I won't be available, i'll follow what's going on afterwards (almost back to home here)
16:55 pmauduit thanks for the notification !
17:24 pdurbin You're welcome. Just finished the call. I'll send out the notes.

18:23 dataverse-user hello how are we going to link the data we enter in dataverse to the research that generated this data?
18:56 pameyer hi dataverse-user
18:57 pameyer without more detail, I'd think of two ways: use the related publication dataset metadata field to link it to the paper describing the research; and using the doi generated for the dataset in descriptions of the research
19:08 pdurbin yep, "related publication" is how "citation to article" works in the example at https://projects.iq.harvard.edu/ojs-dvn/book/faq-ojs-dataverse-integration-project . "citation to data" is going to depend on your journal software
20:00 xarthisius is https://services.dataverse.harvard.edu/miniverse/map/installations-json timing out only for me?
20:03 pdurbin spinning, spinning
20:04 pdurbin xarthisius: do you mind emailing support@dataverse.org about this?
20:04 xarthisius pdurbin: will do
20:04 pdurbin cool. the map at https://dataverse.org is also down
20:06 xarthisius #271820 :)
20:07 xarthisius that's a lot of tickets
20:14 pdurbin heh, don't worry, they aren't all for Dataverse :)
20:15 pdurbin it's an RT installation we were using in 2006 when I was hired and who knows how long before then :)
20:21 pdurbin xarthisius: anyway, thanks for reporting the outage!
20:21 xarthisius np!

21:06 Jim41 @pdurbin? - you still here?
21:15 pdurbin Jim41: for 15 minutes. How can I help?
21:18 Jim41 quick question - I noticed scholars portal is adding a localCode to external tools (https://github.com/scholarsportal/Dataverse-Data-Explorer/blob/master/dataExplorer.json) - but I'm not aware of any code on the DV side yet.
21:18 Jim41 Seems like it would be easy to drop this in since I'm editing there now, but don't want to duplicate or surprise...
21:19 Jim41 Are you aware of their effort?
21:21 Jim41 I'd also like to know if going ahead to make the mimetype optional for external tools makes sense / is better than making a mimetype required and then having to have SP and 2 Ravens have to update their json files...
21:21 pdurbin committed on Dec 11, 2018. Interesting. dvLocale is new to me
21:22 Jim41 (as in the issue discussion 5456)
21:23 Jim41 Yeah - and they're trying to get the browser local if they can't get the one form DV in some January code...
21:23 Jim41 but I don't recognize manikon @ github to make contact.
21:24 pdurbin manikon made the commit. no idea who that is. It's possible that dvLocale is only used in the Data Explorer code, right?
21:24 Jim41 right but their external tool json is planning to pick it up from dv...
21:24 pdurbin hmm, think so?
21:25 Jim41 the url above shows the external tool file
21:25 pdurbin yeah
21:25 Jim41 and I found it linking through from the DV guides...
21:25 Jim41 I can send an issue and see what they think - it's a ~1 line change.
21:26 Jim41 What about optional mimetype - make sense?
21:27 pdurbin I'm playing around on https://dataverse.scholarsportal.info/file.xhtml?fileId=73931&datasetVersionId=4572 in English and French and you're right, I think. After clicking Explore you can see in the URL that dvLocale varies from en to fr. So you think they made a change to Dataverse to make this happen?
21:29 Jim41 yeah - but that shows it's already done - look at the URL sent - it includes &dvLocale=fr coming from DV
21:29 pdurbin I think I found the change they made: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/compare/develop...scholarsportal:externaltool
21:30 Jim41 Yep - thanks.
21:31 pdurbin So anyway, no I didn't know about this dvLocale thing.
21:31 pdurbin thanks for putting it on my radar
21:32 Jim41 Sure.
21:32 Jim41 So - I'm planning to go ahead and make mimetype optional (allow null as it is now) to make upgrading easier - unless you object...
21:32 pdurbin And sorry but I have to go so I can get my kid to cello practice. For the mimetype thing I mostly wanted to bring up if it's required or optional. And the implications for making it required.
21:32 pdurbin optional sounds fine
21:33 pdurbin and there were merge conflicts last I looked
21:33 Jim41 OK - I'll go with optional... - thanks - btw - my son is a cellist...
21:33 Jim41 fixed
21:33 pdurbin nice!
21:33 pdurbin nice!
