I'd call it fate. But that may be just my attitude to life.

Oh, I had another one for you. Something about journal subscriptions: https://twitter.com/petersuber/status/1093199786994487296

@pdurbin do you think we have _anybody_ running Shibboleth on Windows?
12:48
donsizemore
@pdurbin also, this morning I learned there is Shibboleth for Windows https://issues.shibboleth.net/jira/browse/SSPCPP-856
12:58
pdurbin
donsizemore: my understanding is that pameyer is running shibd as a Service Provider on Linux and has it configured to auth against ADFS running on Windows. Does that count? :)
12:59
donsizemore
@pdurbin it burns, it burns!
13:00
pdurbin
:)
13:00
pdurbin
Why do you ask?
13:00
donsizemore
there's a shibboleth 3.0.4.1 for windows out today
13:02
pdurbin
oh
13:03
pdurbin
donsizemore: switching gears, did you notice that I assigned https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-kubernetes/issues/12 to you? :) :) :)
13:16
donsizemore
@pdurbin i will take a look and i would like to try this. we have a EKS access here along with GKE
13:17
donsizemore
@pdurbin I mostly wrestled with the BinderHub helm charts in each; my experience echoes yours. a default sta
13:18
donsizemore
@pdurbin ...nd-up worked; custom configuration directives seem to be ignored
13:18
pdurbin
I wish I could say I have some experience with EKS. All I've done is create those screenshots in the issue. :)
13:22
donsizemore
@pdurbin i wish i had less experience than i have (and i don't have much)
13:22
pdurbin
heh
13:23
pdurbin
I guess I'm wondering if you have the time to stub out the equivalent of ec2-create-instance.sh but for EKS. I'm happy to hack on it once there's a stub. :)
13:25
donsizemore
@pdurbin i can walk-through the install, then maybe yes? this is something i'd like to do; i'm just juggling... stuff here.
13:27
pdurbin
no hurry at all, I'm just thinking of how to best put your skills to use... I like to give you the hard stuff :)
13:28
donsizemore
@pdurbin p.s. do you think anything in 4.11 is tied to solr 7.3.1, or must 4.9.4 stick with 7.3.0 (I suppose I could find this out the hard way)
13:29
pdurbin
no, I don't believe it matters
13:29
pdurbin
I would suggest just using 7.3.1 everywhere. I believe a CVE is fixed in there or something.
13:30
donsizemore
oh, goody. i'm prepping a new UNC Dataverse and was hoping to install solr once. if we don't upgrade before we migrate, we'll upgrade when we migrate
13:32
pdurbin
Cool. Hey, can you please read this and let me know if you think UNC Dataverse would ever want to install dataverse-metrics? https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-metrics/blob/3887c9e128d1056db05a57b01b630b5b92c82bb1/README.md
13:38
pdurbin
andrewSC bjonnh bricas_ juancorr poikilotherm: I'm also curious if any of you might install it for your installations of Dataverse.
13:38
poikilotherm
We might think about this once we are in production ;-)
13:43
donsizemore
I think I'd like to stand it up to play with. Kasha and Thu-Mai could each use the visuals
14:14
pdurbin
Cool. Thanks. Does /var/www/html/dataverse-metrics seem like a reasonable place to suggest installing it? My pull request is close to getting merged, I think, but I'm happy to change it.
14:28
juancorr
Hi pdurbin, I will install it in our develop server and I will question to pass it to production.
14:29
pdurbin
juancorr: thanks! Please let me know if you find any bugs. :)
14:32
pdurbin
Or if you find the README confusing.
14:37
bjonnh
pdurbin: we don't have local install of dataverse anymore, we have everything on harvard instance now…

I hope it's working out ok for you.
14:41
pameyer
the solr 7.3.0 -> 7.3.1 was more of a belt-and-suspenders than anything else
14:41
pameyer
didn't look like it would matter for the recommended dataverse config of solr
14:43
pdurbin
yeah
14:43
pameyer
and pdurbin - I don't think "pandoc" is a german word, but it can translate markdown for all kinds of things that should support it
14:43
pdurbin
heh
14:44
pdurbin
pameyer: I'm also curious if you're a potential user of dataverse-metrics.
14:44
donsizemore joined #dataverse
14:45
pameyer
potentially; but metrics aren't currently high the list
14:45
donsizemore
@pameyer agreed that the point release _should_ be interchangeable... just making sure
14:45
donsizemore
@pameyer i'm trying to get one of my windows VMs to let me sign in so i can register our test metrics host in DNS
14:45
pameyer
@donsizemore as far as I know 7.3.0 and 7.3.1 are interchangable as far as dataverse cares
14:46
pameyer
windows.... best of luck
14:47
pameyer
although it does seem like it's creeping towards becoming compatible with the rest of the world
14:48

donsizemore: how come you don't configure :NavbarAboutUrl to point to https://odum.unc.edu/archive/uncdataverse/ ?
14:51
donsizemore
@pdurbin lemme ask the bosses and maybe we will =)
14:51
pdurbin
heh
14:52
pdurbin
In our internal "Mapped, Unmapped, and Former Dataverse Installations" spreadsheet we have a column called "About URL " and for UNC it's "not configured".
14:54
pdurbin
donsizemore: one thing I'm wondering is if it makes any sense at all to add dataverse-ansible as an optional thing one could install using dataverse-ansible. It sounds like you'd rather host it on a separate server (than the one running Dataverse), which is probably what we'll do too.
14:54
pdurbin
Bah, I meant to say "does it make sense to add dataverse-metrics to dataverse-ansible"?
14:56
donsizemore
@pdurbin lemme step through a manual installation first, then i'll add it as an option?
14:56
pdurbin
Totally up to you. I just thought I'd float the idea out there. I can create an issue if you'd like.
14:57

you're welcome to, and assign it to me

@pdurbin 4d3plus or 5398?

I just deleted the one that was already merged. Thanks for the heads up about this. And for testing dataverse-metrics!

18:21

i didn't remove them
18:23
pdurbin
Oh! Sorry, you need the updated config.json.sample from the d3plus branch
18:23
donsizemore
oh. i fix dat.
18:23
donsizemore
and it includes dataverse.unc!
18:23
pdurbin
hell yeah
18:24
donsizemore
metrics.py is taking much longer this time
18:24
pdurbin
yeah, took me around 5-6 minutes
18:24
pameyer
is there minified d3 laying around to swap in?
18:25
pdurbin
I don't expect UNC to run dataverse-metrics with all those installations. I was more asking if you think it would be interesting or helpful to your people if you configure it for UNC only.
18:25
pdurbin
pameyer: I didn't look for one.
18:26
donsizemore
i figured why not =) my first run was for UNC-only
18:26
pdurbin
ah, ok
18:26
pdurbin
yeah, put it through its paces, please
18:26

still HTML source but blank page

yeah, The requested URL /dataverses-toMonth.tsv was not found on this server.
18:29
donsizemore
it's outside the document root (as it is in config.json)
18:29
donsizemore
oh, wait. those values changed
18:29
pdurbin
yeah, sorry
18:30
donsizemore
they're in the dataverse-metrics subdirectory but i put the git repo at the docroot
18:31
pdurbin
sorry for the confusion. does it make sense?
18:32
donsizemore
i copied the TSVs to docroot and http://dataversemetrics.irss.unc.edu/
18:32
pdurbin
looks good!
18:32
donsizemore
on the next run i'll keep everything beneath /dataverse-metrics where it expects them
18:33
pdurbin
There's still time for me to update the README if you want me to.
18:34
pdurbin
pameyer: I'm somewhat reluctant to swap in a minified d3 at this somewhat late stage but if you see Kevin, please feel free to get his take on it. This is something we could do later too, of course.
18:36
pameyer
there might already be a mega-improve-static-file-handling issue around; if that ever gets picked up this could get rolled in

guys, quick question: to get dataverse working, I understand I need a DataCite client working (to get DOI)... and this is a paid service... Do you know how much it would cost if we were to go directly with DataCite (instead of GDCC)?
