10:59 pdurbin Good morning all. Happy belated Father's Day to all who celebrated yesterday. Happy #dataverse2019 week. :)
11:03 poikilotherm Meh...
11:03 poikilotherm :'-(
11:03 poikilotherm T_T
11:05 poikilotherm I wish you guys a very exciting and thrilling week. I'll send my thoughts and wishes by airmail. ;-)
11:17 pdurbin poikilotherm: thanks. Wish you were here. At least you got your wish at https://twitter.com/poi_ki_lo_therm/status/1135658569934745600 ... the Dataverse DE meeting notes were published: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/dataverse-community/GQcRtPXp6wU/_at197O_AQAJ :)
11:44 poikilotherm Thx pdurbin. I just posted an answer to my tweet with a link to the pad
11:45 pdurbin ah, great
11:47 poikilotherm pdurbin I just got a notice that we will have production access to ORCID later today :-)
12:24 pdurbin nice
12:35 poikilotherm Oh BTW pdurbin: you might take a look at a tiny webpage I created during WissKom when moderating a session... https://github.com/poikilotherm/chairtime
12:41 pdurbin Heh. "-5 min"
12:42 poikilotherm Some people do not believe in time limits
12:42 pdurbin makes me think of The Gong Show
12:43 pdurbin "If any judge considered an act to be particularly bad, he or she could force it to stop by striking a large gong"
12:43 poikilotherm Yeah, I'll suggest this for next WissKom :-D

12:45 pdurbin I made my daughter listen to me practice my talk while we went for a walk yesterday.
12:46 poikilotherm Heh. My daughter helped me making plaster yesterday :-D
12:47 pdurbin sounds more fun
12:47 poikilotherm It's water, some white powder and it makes a wonderfull "Matschepampe" (roughly mud glop)
12:48 poikilotherm All a kid wants :-D
12:49 pdurbin even better than paper mâché
12:49 Thanh Hello all, and happy belated father day!
12:49 Thanh :)
12:49 pdurbin Thanh: good evening! :)
12:50 Thanh :) afternoon here in fact :P
12:50 Thanh 3 pm :)
12:50 Thanh I must say good morning ? :)
12:50 pdurbin Thanh: oh! I'm obviously confused about where in the world you are. :)
12:50 Thanh I'm in France ^^
12:51 Thanh I pop in, to quickly ask 1 question, if this does not bother you guys
12:51 pdurbin That explains why the product owners speak French. :)
12:51 Thanh :)
12:51 Thanh lol
12:51 Thanh yes :) that's exact ;)
12:51 pdurbin We are here to be bothered. Please go ahead.
12:52 Thanh I want to know a little bit more about DCM
12:52 Thanh :)
12:52 Thanh with the current guide, I see that the user need to be in linux environnement to upload with rsync script
12:52 Thanh right ?
12:53 pdurbin Well, Linux or Mac, I guess.
12:53 Thanh and then, the operation will need the right access to the server ?!
12:53 pdurbin rsync comes with Mac
12:53 Thanh not Windows :)
12:54 pdurbin Windows uses would need to install Bash and rsync and say a prayer.
12:54 Thanh lol
12:54 pdurbin It might work!
12:54 Thanh yup, maybe
12:55 Thanh but the user need the access over ssh to the server if I understand right ?
12:55 poikilotherm Heh pdurbin you might test WSL2 on Win 10 to test
12:56 pdurbin The "right access" to the server is done through the (automatic) creation of a temporary Unix user with access to write to the rsync server you set up.
12:57 pdurbin Thanh: please see "create_temporary_account" at https://github.com/sbgrid/data-capture-module/blob/0.6/gen/usg.py#L32
12:58 Thanh Cool, I'll look at this!
12:58 Thanh Thx you pdurbin !
12:58 pdurbin any time
12:59 Thanh :) you guys think of a "demo site" for dcm ? :)
12:59 pdurbin Thanh: maybe if poikilotherm adds it to https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-kubernetes :)
13:00 poikilotherm Sure. Go ahead, create a PR
13:00 * pdurbin looks through open issues
13:00 poikilotherm Happy to test and merge
13:00 poikilotherm Issue first, please ;-)
13:00 pdurbin poikilotherm: can Thanh start by creating an issue? That's easier. :)
13:01 Thanh ^^
13:01 pdurbin Thanh: please create an issue at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-kubernetes/issues
13:02 pdurbin poikilotherm: my talk is about crazy ideas. Can I have you try something?
13:02 poikilotherm Yeah go ahead
13:04 pdurbin poikilotherm: it has to do with GitHub Projects
13:12 poikilotherm Yeah?
13:17 pdurbin_m joined #dataverse
13:17 pdurbin_m poikilotherm: do you have permission to create a project under https://github.com/orgs/IQSS/projects ?
13:18 poikilotherm Yes
13:18 poikilotherm Public, private etc
13:18 poikilotherm https://github.com/orgs/IQSS/projects/4
13:18 poikilotherm (private project)
13:19 poikilotherm Now made public
13:26 pdurbin_m nice!
13:26 pdurbin_m what is your first project going to be about? :)
13:27 poikilotherm Test :-D
13:27 poikilotherm I might link dataverse-k8s
13:28 poikilotherm But I am not sure that makes sense - its a small project with just a low number of issues
14:19 pdurbin beautiful day for a bike ride: https://twitter.com/philipdurbin/status/1140613948850561026
15:07 pdurbin 386 datasets in "mra" subtree: https://dataverse.harvard.edu/api/search?q=*&subtree=mra&type=dataset matches https://dataverse.harvard.edu/dataverse/mra

19:07 stefankasberger on my way to boston (greyhound from NYC). Looking forward to some nice #dataverse hacking and talking days. :)
20:10 pdurbin stefankasberger: great! Three of us in the room are already talking about contributing to pyDataverse!
20:12 stefankasberger thats even greater. :)
20:12 pdurbin stefankasberger: did I tell you I'm using it already?
20:15 stefankasberger nope.
20:16 stefankasberger i will release 0.2.0 in the next hours. this will be a major step, cause basic metadata functionalities will be then useable.
20:27 pdurbin stefankasberger: great! Here's where I started using pyDataverse: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-sample-data
20:30 stefankasberger when will the hacksession at your offices tomorrow start?
20:30 stefankasberger i think i can be there around 11am or so.
20:31 pdurbin stefankasberger: we're hacking right now. :) Oh, tomorrow. I'm not sure. I have a conflict tomorrow so I won't be here.
20:32 stefankasberger but its no problem to pass by, right? and some other folks would/could be there, interested in pyDataverse or the API in general, right?
20:34 jeya joined #dataverse
20:35 pdurbin jeya: hi! stefankasberger is the author of pyDataverse
20:35 stefankasberger do the scripts you wrote work for the automatic upload?
20:36 pdurbin stefankasberger: donsizemore says he'll be here by 11am
20:36 stefankasberger fine. thanks.
20:36 stefankasberger i will invite slava too for 11am.
20:36 pdurbin stefankasberger: and yes, the scripts work great. I do have a little feedback when you're ready.
20:39 stefankasberger nice. lets talk about it on wednesday then.
