09:16 dataverse-user hello
09:16 dataverse-user I am going to install Dataverse k8s in our intranet system
09:17 dataverse-user I have few questions...
09:19 dataverse-user If I start the Dataverse by executing "minikube service dataverse-local", will it be available for other user of our intranet system? Is there something I must change?

11:28 pdurbin I'm not sure what "minikube service dataverse-local" does. I don't see that specific command in the docs.
11:29 pdurbin Generally, minikube is for local development. I assume you'd want to install Dataverse somewhere in the cloud (public or private) to show some other users.

12:10 poikilotherm Hey dataverse-user - still around?
12:11 poikilotherm Damn - seems like I missed them
12:12 poikilotherm Good morning @pdurbin
12:14 MrK joined #dataverse
12:15 pdurbin poikilotherm: good morning. How well did I answer that question? :)
12:16 poikilotherm Pretty good actually :-9
12:16 poikilotherm :-)
12:17 pdurbin Is "dataverse-local" a thing? I couldn't find it.
12:17 MrK hi
12:21 pdurbin What's new, MrK?
12:22 poikilotherm I have been using it to create a NodePort.
12:22 poikilotherm Not necessary anymore
12:22 poikilotherm Hi MrK
12:23 MrK Ah hard to say where I finished :D, well still refactoring, now we are taking care off commands and made exceptions Runtime instead of checked.
12:24 pdurbin MrK: have you seen https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-installations ? It's pretty new.
12:24 MrK nope, I will take a look
12:25 pdurbin It would be nice to have your installation on the map. :)
12:25 MrK ahh i remember, we are still not public :P
12:25 pdurbin ok, no rush
12:26 pdurbin MrK: have you seen http://weblate.dataverse.org ?
12:26 MrK nope, what is it?
12:26 MrK ahh I see
12:26 pdurbin It makes translating Dataverse easier. Slava set it up and talked about it last week.
12:27 MrK Oh wow, interesting tool
12:27 pdurbin "We’re planning a webinar on Weblate somewhere in the middle of December, all community members are welcome." https://groups.google.com/d/msg/dataverse-community/0hu9xXrwOPI/TaMZwOhFAwAJ
12:30 pdurbin MrK: this is also new: https://dataverse.org/dataversetv
12:33 MrK Now I remembered, do you know if anything moved regards some kind of hackathon?
12:35 pdurbin MrK: well, there are some meetups in a spreadsheet linked from https://dataverse.org/events
12:36 pdurbin There's a "Hands-on technical workshop" at https://site.uit.no/dataverseno/european-dataverse-workshop-2020/program/
12:37 MrK I remember there was some kind of spreadsheet regarding financing.
12:37 MrK Of hackathon
12:38 pdurbin Hmm, I don't remember that spreadsheet. Maybe poikilotherm does.
12:43 MrK So what are you guys up to now? I saw that you are having fun with kubernetes.
12:43 pdurbin At the moment I'm working on some data viz: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/5603
12:44 pdurbin You know about our kanban board, right? This: https://github.com/orgs/IQSS/projects/2
12:44 stefankasberger https://twitter.com/TheAUSSDA/status/1194193198719131649
12:45 stefankasberger a small sum up from my visit to the cessda experts seminar last month.
12:45 pdurbin stefankasberger: I saw! Already added to next month's "community news". Thanks!
12:47 poikilotherm I'm hacking on hooking Dataverse to an IDM based on Open ID Connect
12:47 poikilotherm And hacking on Dataverse Kubernetes docs etc
12:49 poikilotherm Mrk pdurbin: we talked about a Hackathon possible for 2020, but never sprung to life... I was thinking about organising one, reached out to Danny, but this was a dead end so far. And more important things to do so far...
12:51 MrK poikilotherm: yeah, I also asked some people but I guess I gotta push some more to find out since people quickly forget :P. There was also idea to organize it in our place.
12:51 pdurbin we did announce the dates for the next dataverse community meeting
12:51 poikilotherm MrK: same here ;-)
12:52 MrK poikilotherm: so a war then, like old times :D
12:53 poikilotherm We could meet in the middle, also like old times %-)
12:53 poikilotherm I have some connections in Berlin
12:54 poikilotherm And maybe Jonas (@rightintwo) from WZB is interested, too
12:56 MrK I wouldn't mind going somewhere, but I gotta talk about financing again since everyone forgot about this idea. But I remember people were optimistic about the idea so, maybe something will be born out of it.
12:56 poikilotherm Although this is more likely to get 2021 now. Doing this in October 2020 was my idea, but this is almost impossible
12:57 pdurbin MrK: I'd be happy to visit your institute if you pay for my flight and hotel. :)
12:57 poikilotherm pdurbin: LOL.
12:57 pdurbin :)
12:58 MrK pdurbin: So a similar case when I wanted to go to Boston but in reverse :D, that was also problematic.
12:59 MrK I think we just have to push for teleportation tech.
13:00 poikilotherm Livestreams/recordings are also a fantastic thing available today ;-)
13:00 MrK But then you feel like you are missing out sitting in your basement.
13:02 MrK pdurbin: So you guys decided to also migrate to github kanban :P?
13:03 poikilotherm Guys, gotta run to my next meeting.
13:03 poikilotherm Cu around.
13:03 MrK Cya

13:05 pdurbin MrK: yeah, from waffle
13:05 pdurbin MrK: it would be great to have you in boston some day :)
13:05 donsizemore @pdurbin didn't you hear? Boston's moving down to Chapel Hill
13:06 donsizemore @pdurbin and I thought of you several times over the weekend, hope you were able to move through the snow
13:11 MrK pdurbin: you melt my heart.
13:23 pdurbin donsizemore: Chapel Hill is the new Boston? :) Thanks! No snow predicted until this afternoon. The move was smooth. Sunny. The new place is great. Still some construction debris in my garage but at least I have a garage now. :)
13:39 donsizemore @pdurbin excellent! and i trust you can find your toothbrush (i hate moving)
13:45 pdurbin It's around here somewhere.

17:33 pdurbin donsizemore: does CoRe2 have a website? Is it https://github.com/OdumInstitute/dataverse-corere ?
17:38 donsizemore @pdurbin https://core2test.irss.unc.edu/
17:39 donsizemore and yes you found the git repo
17:39 pdurbin Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at core2test.irss.unc.edu.
17:40 donsizemore oh i bet it's firewalled. you're on harvard's network?
17:40 pdurbin yeah
17:40 donsizemore what's your class A, i forget
17:40 pdurbin that's ok, I'll just link to the git repo
17:40 pdurbin Here's a new spreadshhet with CoRe2 on it. What do you think? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bvNyn4wwE1eAoBJz8HyXYT3xbtDWhDZBixg5wgRnA2U/edit?usp=sharing :)
17:42 donsizemore look at y'all with your slurm and condor!
18:26 pdurbin yeah
18:27 pdurbin donsizemore: do you think CoRe2 fits on this list?
18:28 jri joined #dataverse
18:31 donsizemore ... kind of? CoRe2 is being designed specifically for archivists / independent 3rd-party verification
18:31 donsizemore but also useful for reproducible science
18:31 pdurbin yeah, this list has a reproducibility flavor to it
18:32 pdurbin xarthisius: I put Whole Tale on there
18:32 pdurbin But I've been thinking that a lot of these reproducibility tools can be used earlier in the reseach lifecycle.
19:12 donsizemore CoRe2 is as much about provenance and verification documentation as it is reproducibility
19:13 pdurbin Right. Makes sense. Is it also for day 0? New project? Let's do some computation?
19:14 donsizemore i don't think i've heard that use case before but my memory is terrible and should not be relied upon
19:17 jri joined #dataverse
19:22 donsizemore @pdurbin wait, wait, i missed a meeting
19:22 donsizemore @pdurbin correct, now their workflow narrative _starts_ in CoRe2, winds up in Dataverse
19:23 pdurbin missed a meeting?
19:23 donsizemore @pdurbin either that or totally zoned out when they made that decision
19:24 pdurbin ok :)
19:41 pdurbin donsizemore: Gustavo is out this week, by the way. Do you want to meet tomorrow?
19:44 donsizemore that's fine, we can regroup
19:45 pdurbin Ok, that means I need to find a room. :)
20:01 pdurbin donsizemore: I just created https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-installations/issues/28 to add the 51st installation to the map. Do you want a separate issue to add it to metrics?
20:02 donsizemore @pdurbin i'll just add it, i can create the issue
20:02 donsizemore great name, btw
20:02 pdurbin thanks!
20:02 pdurbin can't take credit for the name :)
20:06 donsizemore er. there are a ton of installations missing from config.json.sample
20:06 donsizemore just want me to update them all?
20:07 pdurbin sure!
