15:48 vga-tn Hello! I am new to dataverse. I would like to create a dataverse and add datasets to it. I already have the DOIs related to my datasets. Is it possible to add the datasets, with existing DOIs, to the new dataverse container?
15:50 pdurbin vga-tn: hi! Do you control the DOI "authority"? Do you have the username and password for the DataCite account? If so, yes. :)
15:52 pdurbin You can "import" a dataset into Dataverse using either JSON or XML: http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.20/api/native-api.html#import-a-dataset-into-a-dataverse

16:52 vga-tn @pdurbin: No I do not control the DOI authority for the dataset(s) that I would like to import into the dataverse.
16:52 vga-tn @pdurbin: Thank for the link. Is there a "sandbox" that I could play with before trying something for real?
16:53 pdurbin Sure, you can play with https://demo.dataverse.org
16:54 pdurbin Datasets can have alternate identifiers if that helps. Many datasets in Harvard Dataverse had Handles before we switched them to DOIs. But the Handles still work. That's that point of a persistent identifier. :)
16:58 vga-tn Thank you, @pdurbin! I'll play around with the demo.
16:59 pdurbin Sure, have fun.
