11:59 donsizemore @pdurbin @pameyer IMHO all of this boils down to idempotence.
11:59 donsizemore @pdurbin @pameyer a handful of folks have long complained that dataverse-ansible was not idempotent, as Ansible roles should be.
12:00 donsizemore @pdurbin @pameyer I countered that the role was merely a wrapper for the Dataverse installer, which itself is not idempotent, as we've seen.
12:00 donsizemore @pdurbin @pameyer helpful folks have submitted PRs to make dataverse-ansible idempotent, as an Ansible role... but it fires the installer.
12:01 donsizemore @pameyer the ASU installation is in AWS, so I'm with you - my suggested fix would be to replace the instance and start cleanly, particularly since it's a test system for a pilot
12:02 donsizemore but if @pdurbin thinks it would be helpful, I can open an issue about that toggle and other non-idempotent steps within the installer. after wednesday's experience with the Sphinx guides I'm loathe to be that helpful person, though.

14:11 pdurbin donsizemore: you're right about the lack of idempotence in the installer. However, I will say that for my dev setup yesterday, I ran it probably half a dozen times until I had success and it seemed pretty good at picking up where it left off.
14:19 donsizemore I think these were specific cases in setup-all.sh, and I'm a dummy so my proposed solution would be filesystem semaphores.
14:21 pdurbin Ah. Yeah, setup-all.sh isn't idempotent either. I think I just got lucky yesterday.
14:22 pdurbin What would be great is a magic autoupdate thing like Chrome and Firefox have.
14:51 dataverse-user hi
