12:45 Virgile Hi there!
12:46 Virgile Is it possible to modify metadata fields ones a dataset is published?
12:47 Virgile And second question, what happens when we modify the metadata's content of a published dataset? Is it logged?
14:00 donsizemore @Virgile this external tool comes to mind: https://github.com/scholarsportal/Dataverse-Data-Curation-Tool
14:00 donsizemore @Virgile though if you're talking about the fields themselves I'll defer to @pdurbin

14:16 pameyer @Virgile the usual way to modify metadata fields is to create and publish a new version; in that case, it's "logged" in the sense of version history
14:17 pameyer I remember some discussion for an api for edits without creating versions, but don't know where those ended up
14:18 pameyer there is some logging of edits to drafts, but it's not very user facing
14:24 pameyer glassfish4/glassfish/domains/domain1/logs/edit-drafts

15:28 pdurbin pameyer: yes, superusers can create edits without changing the version.
15:37 pameyer pdurbin: thanks
16:30 pdurbin pameyer: this seems related to what we were talking about the other day:  Performance: Slow response for datasets with high number of files or versions #6808 https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/6808
16:34 pameyer pdurbin: interesting, thanks
16:34 pameyer 10s for API response does seem pretty slow
16:36 pameyer haven't done the version scaling tests I was talking about yet, but I'll add them to that issue rather than making a new one
16:36 pdurbin Sounds fine. Thanks.
16:37 pdurbin I was worried you had already linked me to it. :)
16:37 pdurbin I just noticed it under "Needs Discussion" at https://github.com/orgs/IQSS/projects/2
16:38 pdurbin pameyer: oh, big Globus meeting this morning. Are you still interested in using Globus to get files in and out of Dataverse?
16:39 pameyer my main role in any Globus/Dataverse discussions has been to point out that storage-ids conflicting with posix will cause problems

16:40 pameyer hope the meeting goes well
16:41 pdurbin Sorry, I mean the meeting already happened. It was good. We were asking ourselves who in the community, which installations, want a Globus feature.
16:41 pameyer ah, cool :)
16:41 pdurbin Globus doesn't use POSIX-compliant filenames?
16:42 pameyer not currently - we turned off our endpoint during a security tune-up (not getting any use, and too many ports)
16:42 pameyer as far as I know it does
16:42 pameyer but getting files into dataverse with globus might either need duplication of files, renaming that would cause annoyance getting files out, or some other fix
16:43 pameyer if folks aren't worried about storage space, not an issue
16:43 pdurbin Hmm. We got two demos this morning from two different groups and it seemed to work ok.
16:44 pameyer it sounded like the project you linked me to from the big data group was doing copies
16:44 nightowl313 yes to Globus!!
16:44 nightowl313 I didn't realize that was being considered ... we have a big globus integration
16:45 pdurbin nightowl313: hmm. Maybe you should be on the next call.
16:45 nightowl313 that would be great
16:45 pameyer I'm curious to see what they're doing with storage ids - I've been out of the loop enough that there might be a good solution that I don't know about :)
16:46 pdurbin pameyer: it's more like the only copy stays in Globus. And Dataverse is just a catalog. Unless I misunderstood something. In the UI the button for a file said "Download from Globus".
16:47 pdurbin I'm gonna run to lunch but let's pick this up in a bit.
16:48 pdurbin While, I'm gone, this is a decent entry point to one of the Globus demos: https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/9veBZURZfpw/m/Z8OJHgrzBQAJ
16:51 pameyer I should get some food too - semi-deep into gatekeeper/sip at the moment

20:37 pdurbin pameyer: they're talking about you in Slack. All good things.
20:45 pdurbin Anyway, I have tomorrow off. Have a good weekend and see ya Monday.
20:45 pdurbin left #dataverse
20:52 pameyer pdurbin: enjoy the long weekend :)
