15:30 poikilotherm Happy New Year Everyone :-)
15:43 pdurbin IRC is already having a good 2021 compared to Slack. :)
15:54 poikilotherm pdurbin: :-D
15:55 poikilotherm I saw your comment on https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/7499
15:55 pdurbin Oh good. Did it make sense?
15:58 poikilotherm I'm not sure things aren't mixed up here
15:58 pdurbin Things are probably mixed up. :)
15:59 poikilotherm I'm not really sure what @girgink is up to.
15:59 poikilotherm I understood  that he wants to hide Dataverse behind a sub path
16:00 poikilotherm So what we need is to make Dataverse use links etc this complete URL instead of the hostname/...
16:00 poikilotherm No matter what you will need an reverse proxy setup for this as Slava lined out already on the mailing list
16:01 poikilotherm But isn't site url already used in the templates?
16:02 pdurbin Yes, siteUrl is probably already used in templates.
16:03 pdurbin You seem to be optimistic, that it will "just work". :)
16:03 poikilotherm I was a bit confused that this wouldn't be a supported scenario with dataverse.siteUrl
16:04 poikilotherm So maybe this is about resolving my issue from last year (remove fqdn, ...) plus add docs about how to setup for subpath?
16:05 pdurbin I'm definitely in favor of removing fqdn.
16:06 pdurbin Are you basically saying you think girgink could run Dataverse on a subpath today with no changes to the Dataverse code?
16:07 poikilotherm I don't know we he couldn't, as long as we use siteurl everywhere. (Mails, HTML links, ...)
16:07 poikilotherm HTML links might also be rewritten by the reverse proxy, but this is additional compute power instead of generating properly first hand
16:08 pdurbin I'm more concerned about the HTML links than the emails.
16:09 pdurbin You're right. The emails probably use siteUrl. They kind of have to.
16:09 poikilotherm Aye
16:10 pdurbin But yeah, it seems like Slava figured it out with a proxy. I'm not sure if this should be in the main guides or not.
16:12 poikilotherm Maybe @grigink is willing to create a docs contribution?
16:13 poikilotherm I think we should document this use case, as it seemed to cause confusion
16:13 pdurbin The subpath use case.
16:13 poikilotherm Aye
16:14 pdurbin "We know some of you want to run Dataverse on a subpath. Please see this answer from Slava on the mailing list: [link]"
16:14 poikilotherm Meh. That's not very detailed...
16:15 pdurbin But it makes it clear who to contact for support. :)
16:15 poikilotherm I'll leave a comment on the issue that this is a docs issue only, as it is already technically possible, unrelated to the salvation of #6636
16:16 pdurbin Sounds fine.
