13:15 pdurbin If anyone is interested in controlled vocabulary, we're talking about it now.
13:16 pdurbin this: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/pull/6521
13:17 pdurbin whoops, this one: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/pull/7712

13:35 poikilotherm Hey pdurbin
13:35 poikilotherm "Now"? You mean like in ~ half hour during the metadata working group meeting, right?
14:02 pameyer joined #dataverse
14:04 pdurbin then is now now
14:39 poikilotherm :-D
14:40 poikilotherm pdurbin I have another question for our CCO / metadata block guru
14:40 poikilotherm May I drop that here?
14:48 pdurbin poikilotherm: sure, go ahead
14:51 poikilotherm :-)
14:51 poikilotherm When I have a current metadata block with a field "x"
14:51 poikilotherm How do I rename that field to "y" without loosing the data?
14:52 poikilotherm There isn't support for this in Dataverse, right?
14:52 poikilotherm I need to do the data migration via DB manually and reindex afterwards, right?
14:53 pdurbin Right. A lot of work. No API for this.
14:54 pdurbin But should be achievable. Not that I've ever done it myself.
14:59 poikilotherm Achievable to create an API or to do this manually? :-D
14:59 pameyer if you're talking renaming a single field globally, I think it only needs one db update for the datasetfieldtype (possibly remembering incorrectly) table
15:03 pdurbin Both. Everything is possible with code.
15:04 poikilotherm Should we create an API endpoint to rename a field?
15:05 pdurbin Sounds good to me. People care about their data. My fix would be to drop my database and start over. :)
15:06 poikilotherm 🤩
15:07 poikilotherm Anybody need that s**t? No? Good - go nuke it!
15:07 poikilotherm Oh no I dropped the production database...
15:07 poikilotherm Where's that backup again?
15:09 pameyer db transactions are nice - but not sure if they help you with drop database...
15:09 poikilotherm They do. Until you `COMMIT;`
15:10 pameyer which of course, will be only a moment or two before you realize you needed it
