Time S Nick Message
15:59 pdurbin i'm thinking about our `install-dev` script that sets up postgres and glassfish in a dev environment (typically a mac, for us)
15:59 pdurbin if you try to run it as non-root it says "ERROR: You must be logged in as root to run the installer" -- http://dvn.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dvn/dvn-app/trunk/tools/installer/dvninstall/install-dev?revision=8410&view=markup
16:01 pdurbin i'm wondering if i can make it run as non-root... with the the thought that i'd like to be able to easily re-create the dev environment within my user account
16:02 pdurbin i set up postgres in my user account with `brew install postgresql` ... so `psql`, for example, gets installed as ~/.homebrew/bin/psql
16:03 pdurbin here's the homebrew formula: https://github.com/mxcl/homebrew/blob/master/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb
16:03 pdurbin homebrew being a newer fink or macports, basically: http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/
16:04 pdurbin i hear `brew install postgresql` works quite well: http://irclog.perlgeek.de/crimsonfu/2012-12-10#i_6229507
20:42 pdurbin thinking about solr... the openscholar guys use it... OpenScholar - Bug #2199: Solr Search Broken (excesive query size) - https://redmine.hmdc.harvard.edu/issues/2199
20:43 pdurbin right. here's where they implemented it: OpenScholar - Feature #2375: Openscholar Search - https://redmine.hmdc.harvard.edu/issues/2375
21:03 pdurbin made a ticket for solr: https://redmine.hmdc.harvard.edu/issues/2656
21:05 pdurbin it's being suggested to me that elasticsearch may be better: http://irclog.greptilian.com/sourcefu/2012-12-11#i_796
21:05 pdurbin wow, there's a site about this: http://solr-vs-elasticsearch.com
21:10 pdurbin hmm, "No convenient wrapper for Java beans as the @Field annotation in SolrJ" -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ElasticSearch
21:11 pdurbin another comparison: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10213009/solr-vs-elasticsearch
