14:56 balo :D
14:56 pdurbin rliebz: oh hi! I was gonna email you guys back
14:57 pdurbin but I was in the middle of a TransactionRolledbackLocalException ;)
14:57 pdurbin (fixed now) :)
14:59 rliebz pdurbin: Hello
14:59 rliebz Glad you figured it out
15:02 pdurbin heh

15:51 pdurbin rliebz: talking it through helped: http://irclog.greptilian.com/javaee/2014-02-27#i_61008
15:51 pdurbin skay: you're a java person. dunno if you ever dealt with EJB though
15:52 skay pdurbin: not much. they were on the way out when I joined orbitz
15:52 skay and it was my first java job
15:52 pdurbin skay: out with the EJB?
15:53 pdurbin heresy
15:53 skay pdurbin: yeah, drop EJB for hibernate
15:53 skay spring and hibernate
15:53 pdurbin uh huh
15:53 skay old stuff was... *scratches brain*... websomething and ejbs
15:54 skay I can't remember what the container was called.
15:54 skay I joined, first few things I worked on were jboss/spring/hibernate
15:55 skay later we stopped using jboss and used some inhouse thing lighter than jboss that sits on top of tomcat
15:55 pdurbin ok
15:56 pdurbin rliebz: so, I just re-read that email
15:56 * skay apologizes
15:56 pdurbin rliebz: sounds like you might be giving us a demo?
15:56 pdurbin skay: for the heresy? ;) hey, wherez your demo? ;)
15:58 rliebz pdurbin: I'm just finishing up the basic functionality, and then the demo
15:59 rliebz pdurbin: We'll have file management and rendering ready probably in the next week or so
15:59 pdurbin rliebz: awesome. I'm super busy this week and next anyway
16:00 pdurbin rliebz: oh, can I add you or someone from OSF to https://trello.com/b/mloLwYv8/dataverse-apis ?
16:01 rliebz You can add me
16:01 pdurbin rliebz: I just need your Trello username
16:03 rliebz pdurbin: @rliebz
16:03 pdurbin done!
16:04 pdurbin rliebz: now you get to fight it out with jwhitney and skay over what you need :)
16:04 skay I wish I had more to fight over, I have been busy learning how to dockerize things
16:07 rliebz pdurbin: The big one is file downloading through the API, which isn't too OSF specific
16:07 pdurbin skay: codex in #crimsonfu is all excited about docker. and I see that Discourse is moving from vagrant to docker
16:08 pdurbin rliebz: yeah, and that's part of the sword spec. I can remember if I have a redmine ticket for that
16:09 pdurbin rliebz: there's a whole "terms of use" thing to think about: Dataverse Network - Feature #3277: Data Sharing API: Allow data owner to download without TOU. - Project Management at IQSS, Harvard University - https://redmine.hmdc.harvard.edu/issues/3277
16:10 rliebz pdurbin: That'd be lovely
16:11 pdurbin rliebz: "retrieving the content": http://swordapp.github.io/SWORDv2-Profile/SWORDProfile.html#protocoloperations_retrievingcontent
16:11 rliebz pdurbin: I'm currently working on a way for the OSF to render files, but we can't access them without first agreeing to download terms of use
16:12 pdurbin rliebz: right. so for the demo, you'll be limited to public files
16:13 rliebz pdurbin: Limited to public files on public studies on public dataverses, and then the user has to agree to the terms of use manually
16:17 pdurbin rliebz: yeah. sorry. it's what we offer today
16:18 pdurbin rliebz: I couldn't find a ticket so I just made this one: Dataverse Network - Feature #3595: Implement SWORD 2.0 Profile 6.4. - Retrieving the content - Project Management at IQSS, Harvard University - https://redmine.hmdc.harvard.edu/issues/3595
16:18 pdurbin how does it look?
16:18 pdurbin jwhitney: you might be interested in this too
16:18 pdurbin skay: and you
16:19 skay pdurbin: okiedokie. rss feed added
16:19 jwhitney ditto.
16:20 pdurbin :)
16:20 pdurbin thanks, everyone
16:21 pdurbin to see what I'm *really* working on, short term: https://redmine.hmdc.harvard.edu/issues?assigned_to_id=4&sort=fixed_version%3Adesc%2Cpriority%3Adesc
16:21 rliebz pdurbin: Does this mean that it is would not be possible to download individual files?
16:21 pdurbin rliebz: well, what's your take on the sword spec?
16:21 * skay goes slightly afk
16:21 pdurbin rliebz: can you create a card at https://trello.com/b/mloLwYv8/dataverse-apis and argue your case?
16:22 pdurbin under "Ideas" I guess
16:23 rliebz pdurbin: I think individual files would be covered under 6.4.1, although I'm still kind of iffy on how sword works
16:25 rliebz pdurbin: I can definitely create a card. Let me double check exactly what we'd need
16:30 pdurbin rliebz: awesome. thanks

18:43 pdurbin LyndsySimon: huh. I just wrote to the osf google group but I can't find the post. weird
18:44 pdurbin anyway, I cc'd the dataverse mailing list: Re: [OpenScienceFramework] OSF todo? enable/foster scriptable transfer to data repositories - Google Groups - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/dataverse-community/pob_kLlvYss
18:45 pdurbin (speaking of the APIs) :)
18:45 pdurbin jwhitney: gave a shout out to our collaboration too :)
19:03 LyndsySimon pdurbin: I think Google Groups in particular can take a while to go through.
19:11 pdurbin LyndsySimon: works for our Google Group ;)

20:14 rliebz pdurbin: Am I correct in saying there is no support specifically for file versioning? As in, to update a file's contents, you need to delete and reupload on a separate release, which creates a different file ID?
20:16 pdurbin rliebz: that's correct. studies are versioned. files are not. or rather, the version of the file is tied to the version of the study (so we can calculate the UNF of that version of the study)
20:20 rliebz pdurbin: Cool. And is there currently a way to access older versions of a study from the API to view lists of files for that version?
20:21 LyndsySimon joined #dvn
20:35 pdurbin rliebz: nope. current version only. sorry
20:35 pdurbin not sure we even have a ticket to support non current version
20:35 pdurbin trello board territory :)
20:36 pdurbin "ideas"
20:39 rliebz pdurbin: It's definitely something we would take advantage of if you had it.
20:39 rliebz I'll put it on the board.
20:50 pdurbin rliebz: awesome. thanks
