14:11 pdurbin new comments about JSON on the "datasets as git repos" thought experiment: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18WDIS8hrFJvMJBcnRuQ8NfD-VxGq32vJ9WwlEgyyWZs/edit?usp=sharing
14:34 skay pdurbin: I store json in postgresql. I think varchar if pre native json support, native if using modern postgres
14:34 pdurbin skay: nice!
14:34 skay since I have a django app for the moment, I use some django libraries to do so django jsonfield (or perhaps django json_field)
14:35 skay if you use a key-value store you could also store json in there
14:35 pdurbin skay: how do you like the json feature of postgres, in general?
14:35 pdurbin (I've never played with it)
14:35 skay basically, you can decide how to serialize it and then stuff it somewhere, even in a file system
14:36 skay to be honest, I wish I had time to play with it. at some point I will want to have fancier searchers or what not and take advantage of queries but for now I have to make buttons pretty
14:36 skay we need more developers
14:36 skay I'd like some front end and ux people
14:37 skay so that I can focus on other areas
14:38 skay anyway, it's cool that postgres allows one to store json like it does, it's like I get to cheat a tiny bet and have a small key-value store
14:38 skay bit not bet
14:48 pdurbin right. and postgres will support bson soon (binary json), which is what mongo uses. so do you even need mongo? ;)

16:08 skay pdurbin: hey http://joeyh.name/code/etckeeper/
16:09 skay pdurbin: "collection of tools to let /etc be stored in a git, mercurial, darcs, or bzr repository."
16:10 skay pdurbin: "It tracks file metadata that revison control systems do not normally support, but that is important for /etc, such as the permissions of /etc/shadow."
