13:13 laerte Hi, may I ask a basic question, here?
13:23 donsizemore joined #dataverse
13:23 donsizemore @laerte absolutely =)
13:23 laerte I have begun studying the dataverse today and I've been accessing with an admin account which is not mine
13:24 laerte I would like to know how I can manage accounts in order to create another admin account...
13:24 laerte the repository is datavers.ufpb.br
13:25 laerte https://dataverse.ufpb.br/
13:25 laerte I have been reading the admin guide...
13:27 laerte It seems that dataverse is different from DSpace in this aspect, isn't it?
14:01 pdurbin laerte: are you saying you want to create an account for someone else?
14:02 pdurbin laerte: or are you saying you'd like to promote someone's account to be a "superuser" account?
14:03 pdurbin and welcome! Thanks for stopping by. :)

14:46 soU hello there, the glassfish keeps shutdown, it is using 26.7% of the memory which is 8gb
14:46 soU ** 26.7% out of 8gb

14:58 laerte Hi, everyone. Could you please help me with an issue?
14:58 donsizemore @soU i like to give my dataverse instances 64GB of RAM, and one particular ingest job was pushing that
15:00 soU donsizemore: our previous dv3.0 used to run on 4gb with out any issue. is there any change on 4.x which consumes much memory?
15:01 donsizemore @soU 4.x was a near-complete rewrite as I understand. I give our Glassfish service VMs 64GB of RAM, specify a JVM heap of 48GB. Glassfish typically consumes about 6GB on launch and 18-19GB in production
15:03 laerte I would like to know how to create a new admin, if it is possible.
15:06 pdurbin laerte: hi! Welcome! Did you see what I wrote earlier? http://irclog.iq.harvard.edu/dataverse/2017-09-28#i_57923
15:06 soU laerte if you are already a superuser you can go to the dashboard and > manage users and tick superuser box for which you want to give superuser access. don't forget to be careful giving this privilege
15:07 pdurbin donsizemore: it's so nice that yu have these numbers at your fingertips. :)
15:07 donsizemore @pdurbin i kept an extremely nervous eye on our production dataverse instances, both 3 and 4
15:09 soU donsizemore this means what is minimum memory to run 4.x?
15:10 donsizemore @soU Odum's production Dataverse launches consuming around 6GB. I wouldn't personally give one fewer than 8GB, even for a test box
15:11 pdurbin The "phoenix" server I run our API test suite on has 8 GB of RAM: http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.8/installation/prep.html#hardware-requirements
15:11 pdurbin laerte: are you still there?
15:15 soU Thanks donsizemore, I'll upgrade our ram. but still amazes me that our 3.0 is running on 4gb server and around 1.5gb heap for some years.
15:16 soU but yes there are lots of changes since then
15:16 donsizemore @soU when we were running 3.6, the indexing jobs were what drove up our memory
15:16 donsizemore @soU our 3.6 VM had 256GB of RAM for this reason
