18:22 knikolla pdurbin: does dataverse support custom oauth providers?
18:24 pdurbin knikolla: you should probably read through https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/4334
18:25 knikolla pdurbin: i guess fork it is!
18:58 pdurbin knikolla: sigh. We'd like to avoid forks. Did you look at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/4383 ? Is this an area where you'd like to see some modularity? I assume so.
19:00 knikolla pdurbin: yes. you could use something like `moc_auth_openidc` for apache and just get the env variables like you do with shibboleth.
19:00 knikolla mod*
19:00 knikolla `mod_auth_openidc`
19:04 pdurbin Interesting. I'm looking at https://mod-auth-openidc.org and https://github.com/zmartzone/mod_auth_openidc
19:07 knikolla pdurbin: that's how we handle it in keystone (the identity service for openstack) to be generic. We let it to the user to have their apache module configured for a specific path, and then get the variables out of it.
19:07 knikolla So it's not specific to shibboleth or mod_auth_openidc.
19:08 pameyer huh - I hadn't known about mod_auth_openidc
19:09 pdurbin Me neither. I guess it ties you to Apache but we're already tied to Apache for shib stuff generally recomend fronting glassfish with *something*.
19:11 knikolla pdurbin: not necessarily. if there's a similar thing for another webserver which puts the appropriate env variables for you, you could use anything
19:11 knikolla pdurbin: or you could have another type of middleware which does that, instead of the webserver
19:11 pdurbin knikolla: right. You're talking mostly about the approach.
19:12 knikolla pdurbin: yup. the approach doesn't prescribe a server or a specific module.
19:15 pdurbin knikolla: do you feel like leaving a comment about this at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/4383 ?
19:19 knikolla pdurbin: commented.
19:20 knikolla pdurbin: essentially in keystone we don't distinguish between oauth/saml/etc. We have an auth plugin called mapped, which maps environment variables to user attributes.
19:21 pdurbin knikolla: your comment looks great. Thanks!
