@pdurbin Punishment, Glutton for is building R-3.4.4 RPMS for EL7

@pdurbin and pameyer: how do we feel about a Dataverse yum repo?
12:32
donsizemore
or in a grander sense, a cross-platform packages.dataverse.org?
12:41
pdurbin
You don't like having RPMs in Sphinx? :)

@pdurbin if we wanted to say lock in R-3.4 it would be user-convenient to offer them in our own repo. debian/ubuntu package structure if things went that far. c.f. https://packages.irods.org/

donsizemore: oh, I see what you mean now. More control. Seems like a maintenance burden though. I'm pretty sure there's a thing you can configure in yum to freeze certain packages.
13:52
pdurbin
tmonson: welcome! Nice meeting you yesterday.
13:52

@pdurbin there are multiple ways to freeze versions in yum but not the initial package installation - which is where the consortium(?) repo would come in
13:54
pdurbin
How many packages would be in it? Just the two or so we have in the guides?
13:55
donsizemore
@pdurbin for now it might be R and r-apache, maybe more down the road. would be sweet to package Dataverse à la Jenkins
13:56
donsizemore
@pdurbin if you don't think it's worth the trouble i'll toss out the idea, but R for instance installs multiple packages which the user would otherwise have to manually download
13:56
pdurbin
donsizemore: maybe you could prototype the idea on a unc.edu host
13:57

@pdurbin absolutely volunteering. more fun than certain Other Tasks ;-)

It's been a while since I hosted my own yum repo: https://github.com/pdurbin/greptilian-yum

Ubuntu was still a new thing to me a few years back so I switched my home server to it. I've been using Red Hat stuff since forever. I thought I'd check out the other side. :)

@donsizemore Dataverse yum repo sounds interesting. I could see a couple of places where things could go wrong (configs, upgrades)... but if we could sort those out, it might improve the install process a bit
14:04
donsizemore
@pameyer we can try it skunkworks-style, and if things don't work out, VMware can reclaim the storage
14:04
pameyer
https://github.com/sbgrid/data-capture-module/blob/master/jenkins/Jenkinsfile was a big improvement over "use ansible to install, and let me know where it breaks for you"
14:05
pameyer
I don't really know what I'm doing with rpm building / jenkins declarative pipelines - so I'm improvising ;)
14:07

@pameyer I think that's called "devops"

How does the dataverse deal with IRB related issues?
15:09
pdurbin
dataverse-user: hi! There's stuff like "4) If you responded Yes to Q3, are these data sets totally de-identified or was sharing approved by your institutional review board ( IRB)? If you responded No to Q3 please enter N/A here" in this custom metadata block, for example: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/blob/v4.9.1/scripts/api/data/metadatablocks/customARCS.tsv#L8
15:16
pdurbin
Does that help?
15:32
dataverse-user
Yes
15:37
pdurbin
dataverse-user: there's a lot of design work going on right now about sensitive data
