I'm somewhat inclined to not spend too much time on the fake PID provider. I'd like to get something merged. We can always make improvements later. Small chunks.

I like avoiding double coding but once something is merged I can always beg the community to make improvements. :)

Yeah :-) I would prefer a cleaner approach from the start, but as this is primarily for dev purposes, this seems to be ok.

I could weigh in that Make Data Count support will mean that bytes transferred will start to get measured. But I'd rather a production installation reply first. MDC is future stuff.
