@pdurbin morning. i may have a whiny metadatablock question in a minute or two, i'm not sure yet.
12:31
pdurbin
morning, sure lemme know
12:35
pdurbin
Speaking of metadata, check out this post about customizing it: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/dataverse-community/AgYRCOz1Tlk/h_QBHKWTBgAJ
12:37
donsizemore
@pdurbin we added one. solr is happy. the testing group is happy. then yesterday we found out by accident that ALL dataverses offer only that metadatablock. good thing it's a test system
12:39
donsizemore
@pdurbin in the UI, things look right in the "metadata fields" section of the "edit dataverse" screen. but when one tries to add a dataset to any other dataverse...
12:40
pdurbin
Is your custom metadata block on GitHub?
12:41
donsizemore
not yet. i can send you the file if you're willing to look at it? or support dataverse.org
12:41
donsizemore
actually, in tinkering this morning, all existing dataverses are affected. new ones get the correct metadata block
12:41
donsizemore
and i'm just starting to test different versions in vagrant
12:42
pdurbin
support dataverse.org would be better
12:42
pdurbin
which version of Dataverse?
12:44
donsizemore
4.9.4
13:07
bricas_
hey all.
13:08
bricas_
for any dataset where you have to click an
13:09
bricas_
"acept terms" button, the download doesn't seem to work
13:09
bricas_
*accept
13:09
bricas_
e.g. https://dataverse.lib.unb.ca/dataset.xhtml?persistentId=doi:10.25545/AHWHTR
13:15
pdurbin
hmm, and you're on 4.12
13:16
bricas_
yep
13:16
pdurbin
nothing in the javascript console
13:17
pdurbin
it looks like as a work around you could have people go to file landing pages like https://dataverse.lib.unb.ca/file.xhtml?fileId=171&version=1.0 but obviously, that's not great
13:17
bricas_
ya, we noticed you could do that
13:18
pdurbin
judging from https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/5743 I think/hope that upgrading to 4.13 will fix it
13:19
bricas_
ah. i will try.
13:20
pdurbin
awesome. please keep us posted
13:24
bricas_
bingo!
13:25
pdurbin
that was a quick roll out to prod :)
13:25
pdurbin
donsizemore: ^^ ;)
13:26
bricas_
not much to it :)
13:27
pdurbin
phew
13:29
donsizemore
@pdurbin i found my mistake. i enabled the metadata block via API for the :root dataverse rather than the sub-dataverse. but "enabling" sounds like an addition. in this case it was a replace
13:30
pdurbin
Hmm, if the docs are confusing, let's fix 'em.
13:35
donsizemore
remember the "Duh Click Here" GIF? s/Duh/Don/g
13:35
pdurbin
if it wasn't from the 80s I might not remember it
13:58
donsizemore
@pdurbin now that i think about it, i do think i found either a bug or an opportunity for a feature request through stupid-user behavior
13:59
donsizemore
@pdurbin I enabled a metadatablock on the root dataverse which in turn cascaded to all sub-dataverses, but there was no indication of this in the UI
13:59
donsizemore
@pdurbin meaning that when I tried to edit the dataverse, the API -enabled metadatablock wasn't visible and the default remained selected in greyed-out fashion
14:02
pdurbin
sounds like a bug, or at least a user experience issue
14:23
pdurbin
donsizemore: I'm glad you didn't have any behavioral inhibition over adding screenshots to https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/5782 . Thank you.
14:25
donsizemore
in hindsight it all makes sense. i'd still like to tinker and fix it without dropping and reloading, so i haven't started over yet
14:29
pdurbin
ok

donsizemore: I'm called in to your boss's webinar. :)
18:07
pdurbin
this one: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/dataverse-community/ZA3S-3NDmZQ/5nfBE-XKBgAJ
18:20
donsizemore
@pdurbin yeah... about that. if he tries to use the impacttest dataverse and got signed out... akio pushed a commit and jenkins redeployed while he's talking
18:30
pdurbin
:)
18:32
pdurbin
donsizemore: do you want me to give your 53_http_proxy branch a try?
18:35
donsizemore
@pdurbin if you have static certs, sure. i need to finish the letsencrypt stuff. i also need to generate certs for my buildbox so i can actually test the branch =)
18:37
pdurbin
ah, I thought maybe you were already done with let's encrypt. I do have a static cert. If I (or someone else) accidentally terminates my dev2 instance, I'll give it a try. :)
18:39
pdurbin
I opened https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-jenkins/issues/1 but I have some more ideas for issues for that repo. Is now a good time to chat about them?
18:41
donsizemore
sure thing. also let me know how his talk is going. i'm only getting audio through the wall
18:41
pdurbin
Nice demo so far. If he had to log back in, I must have missed it.
18:42
donsizemore
he definitely had to because the service restarted during his talk
18:42
pdurbin
well, it didn't slow him down, he's on a roll
18:43
pdurbin
uh oh, "maybe it didn't work"
18:43
pdurbin
not showing a second set of versions or something
18:43
pdurbin
"at least we know it's live software when it crashes" :)
18:44
pdurbin
Tactus Explorer?!?
18:44
donsizemore
tactus is my service monitoring box here... runs nagios
18:45
pdurbin
ah
18:45
pdurbin
or as a former boss called it... "naggin' us"
18:48
donsizemore
naggy-ose
18:49
pdurbin
folks here switched to datadog
18:53
pdurbin
looks like you're on the infra working group
18:54
pdurbin
and the tech working group
18:58
donsizemore
oops, i opened an issue and can't submit my own PR. i thought everything bundled in dvinstall.zip was in the source tree
19:01
jri joined #dataverse
19:03
donsizemore
so when akio triggered that rebuild and redeploy, we got a login error from datacite... that's what went splat during the talk
19:09
pdurbin
not sure what you mean
19:11
donsizemore
we've noticed a number of transient errors from datacite since the switch in december
19:26
pdurbin
bummer
19:27
pdurbin
If we all move to California, we can switch back to EZID. :)
19:35
donsizemore
i want to live near grace cathedral
19:36
