That's almost the name of very interesting podcast I recently discovered.

The guide is not yet complete, but I need to get moving with other business :-D

poikilotherm: I saw! I was just checking and now I have four commits in dataverse-kubernetes! \o/

Should we leave a comment at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/4665 about it?

Maybe we can finally solve the issue by pointing to the project and the docs

Dataverse seems to have a lively and active community of users
12:38
Benjamin_Peuch
This is great
12:42
pdurbin
Yeah, we encourage the community to speak up, to let each other know what's on their minds. Maybe it's just a small, loud community. :)
12:43
Benjamin_Peuch
Small but loud :D
12:43
pdurbin
yeah :)
12:43
pdurbin
growing!
12:45
pdurbin
poikilotherm: nice tweet. Small typo (of*) but please don't worry about it. Should we make a pull request and put 4665 through QA?
12:46
pdurbin
Benjamin_Peuch: thanks so much for the travel guide!!
12:46

PR to remove the OpenShift guide?
12:47
pdurbin
Well, that's some work.
12:47
pdurbin
I was more thinking adding a link to the new guide.
12:47
pdurbin
maybe under the "choose your installation adventure" section
12:48

A future version of this: http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.18.1/installation/prep.html#choose-your-own-installation-adventure

pdurbin
Benjamin_Peuch: looks great! One correction is that I'm not one of the original developers. I did hack on version 3 a bit but I've only been with the project for 7 years.
12:57
Benjamin_Peuch
Ah, I see. Important distinction
12:58
Benjamin_Peuch
I'll change this right away.
12:59
pdurbin
Otherwise it looks great. If you feel like it, you could also link to my talk ( https://fosdem.org/2020/schedule/event/dataverse/ ) but no pressure.

13:58
pdurbin
MrK: wanna come? You were looking for Dataverse events in Europe. :)
14:00
Benjamin_Peuch
pdurbin: Certainly. Should I email support dataverse.org?
14:00
Benjamin_Peuch
Brussels is more centrally situated than Tromso. That's for sure.
14:01
pdurbin

Oh good, it has warmed up from "feels like" 7 F to 9 F. Time to bike in. That's -13 C.
14:15
donsizemore
@pdurbin yeah, it's only going to be 53°F here today =(
14:18
MrK
pdurbin: We had very light winter this year, like constantly around 0 C.
14:34
stefankasberger
Sure, booked my flight today. :)
14:35
stefankasberger
@pdurbin: one comment about the last community call protocol: there is a pyDataverse function to retrieve the Dataverse installation version. this can be used to automatically get the versions of the 53 instances.
14:41

Thanks pdurbin. Just did it.

15:50

@poiilotherm certainly, but... it's just a jar. enough for me to drop it someplace beneath ~jenkins?
15:51
pdurbin
poikilotherm is building docs with Jenkins? No fair. Can we build the Dataverse guides with Jenkins too? :)
16:01

It would make code review easier. :)

pdurbin - if you've got a moment (and have the power), could you put https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/6495 in community dev?
18:59
pameyer
... or code review
19:03
poikilotherm
donsizemore forgive me. I forgot I am using Docker, so I just need to add it to my Dockerfile. /facepalm
19:05
poikilotherm
pdurbin beware, my build does not support multiple branches. That's why I switched to RTD

Mobile app, using Matrix IRC bridge :-)
19:25
poikilotherm
But yes, 2025 over here. Just kissed my daughter good night.
20:21
pdurbin
pameyer: hi! It looks like your pull request (thanks!) was moved to code review by Danny BUT I recently learned from poikilotherm how you can do this yourself. Ready for the explanation?
20:30
pameyer
pdurbin: sure!
20:31
pameyer
I might've been able to move it on the board, but couldn't figure how to get it on the board
20:31
pdurbin
right, you have to search
20:31
pdurbin
want to try it with your issue?
20:31
pameyer
search from the board?
20:32
pdurbin
Yeah. Well, first you have to click "add cards".
20:32
pdurbin
Since your card is new it might be near the top. You might not have to search.
20:32
pameyer
gotcha - that makes sense now
20:33
pameyer
I'd been thinking "add cards" did something else, and was looking for a "inbox" column like waffle had
20:35
pdurbin
Yeah, we all have to unlearn Waffle.
20:36
pdurbin
pameyer: that reminds me, do you want to make a board for either of the Dataverse installations you've worked on? Or encourage someone else to?
20:37
pameyer
pdurbin: thanks, but not quite yet
20:38
pdurbin
Ok. I thought one of the two was on the map but I guess not.
20:39
pdurbin
We swapped in a new map, by the way: https://dataverse.org
20:39
pameyer
I think you may have told me about the new map (not that my memory is that trustworthy)
20:39
pdurbin
And on the new map we link to project boards per installation.
20:46
pdurbin
And other goodies. CoreTrustSeal certificates.
20:46
pdurbin
GDCC membership, etc.
21:50
pameyer
nice - I saw a lot of new boards I didn't recognize
21:51
pameyer
looks like lots of interesting stuff going on
21:51
pdurbin
Yeah. Maybe you can tell me if this makes any sense: https://github.com/pdurbin/druthers/issues/1
21:55
pameyer
interesting. haven't dug into it too much; but it seems like it might be tricky to balance the communications overhead
21:55
pameyer
btw - I appreciate that your blog works on lynx
21:56
pdurbin
I tested it with elinks. :)
21:57
pdurbin
Tricky in what way?
21:59
pameyer
kind of an unfocused first impression, so don't over weight it
22:00
pdurbin
ok, no worries :)
22:00
pameyer
but it assumes (maybe?) folks are tracking things in github, have the public enough to show up in a board, etc
22:01
pameyer
if folks have a mix of github, bitbucket, gitlab, ticketing systems, groups, trello / etc
22:01
pameyer
could get tricky; kind of a "which thing belongs where"
22:05
pdurbin
sure, makes sense
22:05
pdurbin
but Dataverse is pretty all in on using GitHub Issues
22:05
pameyer
right - and IQSS is very big into transparency
22:05
pdurbin
yeah
22:05
pameyer
which is a good thing; but not a universal thing
22:06
pdurbin
yeah
22:06
pdurbin
Dataverse installations having a board is optional, of course.
22:07
pdurbin
To me, having a board in an indication of interest or willingness to engage with the developers.
22:07
pdurbin
is*
22:09
pameyer
you're also very good at balancing multitudinous communications channels
22:09
pdurbin

<ggg>
22:13
pameyer
pdurbin: thanks. I'm open to suggestions about it; but it would've helped with something I ran into (and seemed like it might be more broadly useful)
22:16
pdurbin
pameyer: these are new in 4.18 and might be useful to you: http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.18.1/api/native-api.html#users-token-management
22:18
pameyer
thanks!
22:19
pameyer
cool - I'd missed those
22:22
pdurbin
lots of new stuff all the time :)
22:24
pdurbin
I think https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/pull/6488 would allow multiple file system stores, if that's of interest.
22:25
pameyer
I saw some of that - glad to see other folks are running with it
