15:18 pdurbin Happy November and time change and all that.
15:22 Virgile Hi Phil, thanks, you too! :)
15:23 pdurbin How's it going, Virgile?
15:24 Virgile First day of lockdown v2 here... for at least one month. So I must admit that it feels quite strange. ^^
15:25 Virgile Apart from that I'm doing great! Installation of the pre-production instance of Dataverse is starting tomorow.
15:25 pdurbin Yikes. I bet it's a real lock down too. Not just a "bar are closed" lock down.
15:26 Virgile yeah, a real one ;o
15:26 Virgile How about you?
15:26 pdurbin bars*
15:26 pdurbin Good. I have my fingers crossed that a pull request is merged soon. Otherwise another one might slip in and I'll have to deal with merge conflicts. :)
15:28 Virgile I see - Let's hope that it will go the smoother way then!
15:28 Virgile I think I'll be able to attend community call of tomorow
15:28 Virgile See how it goes ^^
15:30 pdurbin Great. It's a different time for us due to our time change but the times at https://dataverse.org/community-calls are in UTC.
15:31 Virgile we also changed so the 3PM UTC one should be ok ^^
15:31 pdurbin 👍
15:49 Virgile that's the end of the day for me so I'm off! Have a nice day!
15:49 pdurbin 👋

19:10 pameyer I always appreciate how twitter detects no javascript, offers to redirect you to another version, and then proceeds to go into an endless loop
19:36 pdurbin poikilotherm: nice

21:13 foobarbecue why is everything in italics?
21:13 foobarbecue is that just me?
21:14 pdurbin it's just you
21:23 foobarbecue weird. Also, is there a recommended way to configure SSL when using dataverse-kubernetes? I'm using demo-k3s and it seems to be redirecting me from http to https and faiing
21:23 foobarbecue *failing
21:26 pdurbin we'll have to hope poikilotherm is around to answer
21:26 pdurbin Are things in italics in Dataverse? Or in this chat? I'm using a fixed width font. :)
21:29 poikilotherm You rang a bell
21:29 poikilotherm foobarbecue: italics? In the docs?
21:31 poikilotherm foobarbecue: about SSL... You could use traefik to deploy let's encrypt certs, which is the default load balancer anyway
21:32 poikilotherm For Jülich DATA we use a nginx sidecar loading the certs and doing reverse proxy things for us. This is also because we do some redirects, add custom styling etc.
21:32 poikilotherm We might also one day is this to create a frontend for our S3 storage
21:32 poikilotherm Argh autocorrect
21:33 poikilotherm We also might use this one day...
21:33 poikilotherm Usually you won't run a productive workload on k3s...
21:34 poikilotherm So there is a great chance that your cloud environment already handles SSL for you
21:35 pameyer @poikilotherm mentioning nginx reminded me of a low urgency question about an earlier conversation.  I knew that you needed apache for shib, but didn't realize you needed apache ajp (vs apache http proxy).  was I interpreting what you said correctly?
21:36 foobarbecue Uploaded file: https://uploads.kiwiirc.com/files/9a8b3fd649bea544ae57f91feed2cfd2/image.png
21:36 foobarbecue the italics thing is just in kiwiirc. Mildly annoying
21:37 foobarbecue switching to monospace fixed some of it
21:38 poikilotherm HTH. Back to drywall. Ring a bell by mentioning for more
21:38 foobarbecue ah, thanks, I see the sidecar solution here https://github.com/GlobalDataverseCommunityConsortium/dataverse-kubernetes/blob/8051b39c28967c0fe469aac7e1b57940e0dd2c67/personas/prod-skel/envs/env1/webapp/sidecars/ssl/config.yaml
21:45 pdurbin pameyer: yeah, you need AJP for Shib. At least the way we've implemented it. We get attributes instead of headers, which is more secure.
21:46 pdurbin foobarbecue: that is a lot of italics. This is the client I use: https://weechat.org
21:47 poikilotherm pameyer: yes, if you want Shibboleth as SP, you are bound to Apache. iirc this is due to the way Dataverse reads the Shib attribs from the headers. Currently these are hard coded to sth only doable with AJP.
21:47 pameyer thanks!
21:48 poikilotherm Ceterum censeo: Shibboleth as an SP esse delendam.
21:49 poikilotherm foobarbecue: yeah, I added a few words about all this in the guide...
21:49 poikilotherm Feel free to improve and extend :-)
21:50 poikilotherm The cloud is very colorful and with so many flavors.
