something weird and maybe interesting was bought to my attention with regards to DVN. Dr. AkioSone may have answered this at one point for me. would it be easy to extract the GUI Web interface portion of dataverse and attach it to another archival software ?

Hello Dataverse developers and Users, sorry somehow i was disconnected.

pdurbin: yes, we enjoyed using the web GUI greatly here at hopkins. Easy for users to input and upload all kinds and types of data, also easy to add additional fields too.

pdurbin: the higher ups kind was wondering (asking me) if Dataverse would be able to be disassembled into two portions, the GUI and the backend. i really have no clue. Theoretically, i think the answer is Yes, but the amount of work for this could be tremendous for our internal developers which i am sure of.

pdurbin: i think managers are asking me if Dataverse's Web GUI would be able to connect to our internal application's backend (archival). This is just a question from me, no need to do anything. I was curious. My knowlege on DVN's internal components are minimal, also i am not familiar with our internal archival software's internals either.

freeman: this is a different GUI : https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-android ;)

but it talks to the Dataverse backend
18:44

what you want is the Dataverse frontend (written in JSF) to talk to a different system's backend. the code is not written in a way to support this

pdurbin: Kool. we are interested in the JSF frontend which is being actively used. ok, this is what i thought, where the Dataverse JSF frontend is a modular thing. Thousand Thanks, this is perfect !! pratty much what i needed to answer a few questions on my end.
19:51
freeman
pdurbin: right, current dataverse JSF front end is not modular enough to be a standalone application therefore be portable at this current state. brain is gone already. lol

freeman: you have some other backend in mind?
