Good morning :)

if anyone is on rhel7/centos7 and yesterday's postgres update breaks their database service, the temporary solution is to comment out the "Timeout" value in the systemd postgres*.service file.

pameyer: thanks for your reply at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/4369

pameyer
pdurbin: thanks for taking a look

good catch on schema.xml; I'll see if I can get that sorted
16:00
pdurbin
Ok. Thanks. I don't mind the post script. It's only a few lines.

Maybe I should explain the surgery I do in Vagrant. I hear you on not wanting to re-download Glassfish over and over.
16:01
pameyer
I'm assuming that there's a reason IQSS doesn't distribute modified copies of glassfish/solr
16:02
pdurbin
Well, would you trust them? :)
16:02
pameyer
to run Dataverse
16:02
pdurbin
Hmm, ok. I figured sysadmin would want to download the "real" Glassfish.
16:03
pdurbin
sysadmins*
16:04
pameyer
reasonable - but it's not stock glassfish; it's the glassfish + dataverse patching scheme that some proportion of sysadmins don't necessarily understand the moving parts
16:05
pameyer
it's analagous to "download nginx, but replace a few .so files with stuff from another repo because our app needs that"
16:06
pdurbin
Yeah, the Weld patch is "real" but it's a leap of faith to use the Grizzly patch I created years ago.
16:08
pdurbin
pameyer: the big thing about your pull request is that I wasn't expecting to have to do any manual work. I'm lazy. I stopped. Not worth it. I hope that makes sense.
16:08
pameyer
well, you can already run integration tests
16:09
pameyer
so I get that it's not worth it to you
16:09
pdurbin
I can but in practice I don't because it's inconvenient and slow.
16:09
pdurbin
I assume you mean that I could run them on my laptop.
16:11
pameyer
I meant that you can run them on jenkins; but as far as I'm aware no other devs could run them if they wanted to (unless their IQSS devs who already have write access to jenkins)
16:11
pameyer
s/their/they're/g
16:11
pameyer
so you being able to run them on your laptop is less significant than other internal/external developers being able to run them *somewhere*
16:12
pameyer
does that make any sense?
16:13
pdurbin
Oh, the only time I run the API test suite from Jenkins is *after* a pull request is merged. This is because my Jenkins jobs (three chained together) are set to use the "develop" branch. Also, it always deploys to the same server. That server (phoenix) is dedicated to the develop branch.
16:13
pameyer
so IT failures will only be detected post merge?
16:14
pdurbin
Yep. And only if I remember to click "Build Now".
16:14
pameyer
does that seem like something that's worth improving?
16:15
pdurbin
Absolutely. This is something I threw together in a week years ago.
16:15
pameyer
my take is that that was a very well-spent week :)
16:15
pdurbin
heh
16:15
pdurbin
I did what I could
16:31
pdurbin
pameyer: anyway, maybe Jenkins is the missing piece here. It looks like you're be at IQSS tomorrow. I have a ton of meetings but maybe we can find a few minutes to sit together and see if we can get this new code to execute. The new code in the pull request, I mean.
16:32
pameyer
sounds like a plan
16:32
pdurbin
cool
16:33
pameyer
btw - is there a way to tell maven "run all the integration tests"? instead of "run the list of integration tests I specify"
16:34
pdurbin
pameyer: I'd love to know the answer to that. Let's look at pom.xml.
16:35
pameyer
not now, unfortunately - need to setup for a meeting in a few minutes

donsizemore: Jon was there
19:38
pameyer
pdurbin: sorry I missed it. I would've been able to make the first two times (at least remotely); but it seemed like "dynamic scheduling" needed to happen
19:39
pdurbin
It was a long meeting.
