14:21 pdurbin donsizemore: hi! Ready to chat about GitHub issues? :)
14:23 donsizemore @pdurbin eh, i went ahead and opened one. the second question I had for you was... now that I think about it, upgrading from RHEL/CentOS 6 to 7 is really more of an ops migration. the JVM version is what would make the major difference, and it stays at 1.8
14:24 donsizemore @pdurbin so, would that issue be Harvard-specific (and should I stay out of it) or would it be helpful to include an installer paragraph (or potentially an additional page) about upgrading, noting this an pointing out that the only thing to watch out for is Postgres version
14:25 donsizemore @pdurbin (which, using the current driver version should in theory cover them all, and my swapping out the JDBC driver and doing a series of upgrades on a test server went smoothly)
14:25 pdurbin donsizemore: you opened a new issue? I didn't get an email yet.
14:25 donsizemore @pdurbin well, i re-opened it by way of you =)
14:25 pdurbin ah, that one :
14:25 pdurbin :)
14:26 pdurbin the jdbc one: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/3789
14:27 pdurbin I don't have anything intelligent to say about JDBC right now. I haven't studied the issue. Sorry.
14:27 donsizemore @pdurbin Postgres released a 2nd fix for their most recent security updates on RHEL/CentOS 7, so all that's good now BTW

14:28 pdurbin oh, the postgres thing you mentioned yesterday?
14:28 donsizemore @pdurbin I'll step through my test dataverse servers, swap out the JDBC driver for the current 42.1.4, and report back. then we'll run it by pameyer?
14:29 pdurbin donsizemore: that sounds great. I just assigned that issue to you.
14:29 pdurbin Thanks!!
14:29 donsizemore @pdurbin it'd be pretty sweet to just link to the current driver from jdbc.postgresql.org
14:30 pdurbin Honestly, I'm not even sure why it's necesary to use a special driver. I could swear I've gotten by without it. But I don't know and I may be mis-remembering.
14:31 donsizemore @pdurbin we'll find out. so on the upgrade bit from 6 to 7... i've got a mix of each here at Odum and it's really been a non-issue. rsync the filesystem, dump the database, et voilà! dataverse ratatouille
14:33 pdurbin Yes, I think plenty of the Dataverse installations around the world are already running on RHEL/CentOS 7 (el7 for short). The issue is that in our repo there are a number of places where we reference el6: Vagrant files, Docker files, the Installation Guide, and probably other stuff I'm not thinking about. A future pull request would switch all of it from el6 to el7.
14:33 pdurbin Or el8 depending on if it's out already. :)
14:35 donsizemore i've been dreaming of RHEL8 so Odum only has to migrate once in the near future
14:37 donsizemore @pdurbin ah, gotcha. i'm currently on i think 4 grants plus my normal jerb, but i'd be happy to start stomping those out. the 3.0 kernel performs much better than 2.6 =)
14:39 pdurbin donsizemore: should we wait for el8? When is it due out? Maybe larsks knows. :)
14:39 * larsks knows nothing
14:39 pdurbin heh
14:40 pdurbin donsizemore: let me ask you this. When with el6 stop receiving security updates. It seems like some of the terminology has changed.
14:47 donsizemore @pdurbin they've started rebasing stuff more freely in el7, so i'm not holding my breath for 8. i can take another look at their security update schedule, but i think that time would be measured in years
14:47 pdurbin donsizemore: ok, phew :)
14:50 pdurbin https://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/General says "CentOS-6 updates until November 30, 2020". That's good enough for my purposes. Measured in years, like you said.

20:45 gbunton Hi. Quick, possibly igorant question or two. Am I correct we can set up an institutional dataverse "space" using Harvard's Dataverse instance?

23:58 pdurbin shoot, missed them
