09:33 pdurbin I just gave my lightning talk: https://twitter.com/StephvandeSandt/status/1222811917485584384

09:53 Benjamin_Peuch Hey pdurbin
09:53 Benjamin_Peuch Not too jet-lagged?
10:00 Benjamin_Peuch I see you mentioned Herbert Van de Sompel. I haven't met him yet but I've read him. :D

10:10 Yuunai Hi! Is there any ready to run development environment for dataverse? I mean smf like vagrant or docker?
10:16 pdurbin Yuunai: yes! Please see https://dataverse-k8s.readthedocs.io for the fanciest option by poikilotherm but there is alo a Vagrant file and other options.
10:20 pdurbin Benjamin_Peuch: I couldn't sleep very well but I just gave my lightning talk and it went fine. :)
10:21 Yuunai Thanks :) I couldn't find anything about it myself.
10:24 pdurbin Yuunai: I created the Vagrantfile but it's been a while since I've used it. Are you on Windows, Mac, or Linux?
10:29 Yuunai I'm working on Windows and Linux at the same time. I mean that my main system is Windows, but I'm working on vagrant boxes with Linux for different projects development. That is why I asked about Vagrant.
10:41 Benjamin_Peuch Congrats, pdurbin!
10:42 Benjamin_Peuch So they turned down your talk "Dataverse is [crawling?] with PIDs" but you still got to give a lightning talk, is that right?
10:43 Benjamin_Peuch Did you get nice feedback?

11:02 pdurbin Benjamin_Peuch: yes, exactly. And people seemed to like it. In a way, a lightning talk is better because it's single track. So there were more people in the room. :)

11:03 pdurbin Yuunai: ok, so you have Linux running in a VM on Windows? Using VirtualBox or something?
11:03 Youssef_Ouahalou Hello @pdurbin :)
11:03 Youssef_Ouahalou how are you ?
11:06 Yuunai Yeah, just like You said @pdurbin, Virtualbox.
11:06 pdurbin Good! Having a blast in Lisbon. I checked into my flight to Brussels. :)
11:08 pdurbin Yuunai: ok, so do you plan to use Vagrant? Or Docker?
11:11 Yuunai Right now I'm using Vagrant, but i can go for Docker as well. Especially in case of vagrant box being outdated.
11:12 Yuunai The easier to use the better :)
11:14 Youssef_Ouahalou pdurbin: It's great, look forward to meeting you, I learned that @poikilotherm will also be present
11:19 pdurbin Yuunai: ok, if you have any problems, please open an issue at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues . I'm at a conference but someone might be able to help.
11:21 Yuunai Ok, thanks again @pdurbin :)
11:25 pdurbin Yuunai: sure. Are you working on a feature? A bug?
11:26 pdurbin Youssef_Ouahalou: yes, I told poikilotherm I'd bring him some stickers: https://twitter.com/philipdurbin/status/1222531572248780800
11:31 Youssef_Ouahalou if you still have it, i will please haha
11:34 pdurbin Youssef_Ouahalou: you want some stickers? Which ones? :)
11:35 Youssef_Ouahalou the stickers with "Dataverse project" please
11:36 Youssef_Ouahalou ;)
11:36 Yuunai @pdurbin For now I just want to check how does dataverse login system works in order to try to disign/enable simultanuous use of multiple log-in systems. I'm dataverse greenhorn, but i got a task to do so, so i need to do some research :)
11:41 pdurbin Youssef_Ouahalou: no problem. I'll bring a bunch. It's the pamphlets that are almost gone. :)
11:41 pdurbin Yuunai: cool. Let me dig up an issue and a commit for you to look at.
11:42 Youssef_Ouahalou ahahha ah okay thank you very much
11:44 pdurbin Yuunai: please look at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/3487 and fe8e41a which is linked in the description.
11:49 Yuunai @pdurbin Oh, i didn't know about this, thanks.
11:57 pdurbin Yuunai: sure. It's likely to be tough. Would you like to work on a smaller issue first to get familiar with our dev process?
11:59 poikilotherm Yuunai: you might make multiway login a reality by using an IDM
11:59 poikilotherm Like Unity IDP or Keycloak etc
11:59 poikilotherm Those can be attached to Dataverse via OpenID Connect since 4.19 which has been released last week.
12:01 Yuunai @pdurbin At first I would like to dig into the code a little, then maybe first smaller issue.
12:01 Yuunai @poikilotherm I will check it out.
12:02 Yuunai I have to leave for today, but i will go through staff You mentioned tommorow :)
12:02 Yuunai See You soon

12:19 poikilotherm pdurbin: thanks for reaching out at dv-k8s#156. I just added a reply to you guys https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-kubernetes/issues/156#issuecomment-580225673
12:20 Benjamin_Peuch pd
12:20 Benjamin_Peuch Whoops. Sorry about that.
12:20 Benjamin_Peuch Hey pdurbin, do you like the name of our columns? :D

13:16 pdurbin Benjamin_Peuch: not to discourage you but my boss and I are a little confused by what this one means: THE PACT IS SEALED (done)
13:17 pdurbin poikilotherm: nice reply. So you're thinking about something like logstash. I've never used it but I've heard good things.
13:21 Benjamin_Peuch pdurbin: Ah well. Jokes don't always work. :p It simply stands for things are done, that received attention from you guys.
13:21 Benjamin_Peuch (And for which we are most grateful.)
13:26 pdurbin Benjamin_Peuch: right, but some of those "done" issues are still open, right?
13:32 pdurbin Benjamin_Peuch: this one, for example, is still open, but it's in the "done" column: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/6383 . What does that mean? :)
13:37 poikilotherm pdurbin: yeah :-) Do proper log aggregation with tools made for it ;-)
13:39 pdurbin Sure. We use Splunk but I'm not very involved with it.
13:46 poikilotherm Actually I'm pretty sure that https://github.com/CDLUC3/counter-processor could be extended to read inputs from an index
13:46 poikilotherm Right now they are reading from logfiles
13:47 poikilotherm But the software has been designed to be very modular, so most likely it should be fairly easy to extend with a new input source
13:48 poikilotherm Actually they pipe the logs into an sqlite to speed up the report generation :-D
13:55 pdurbin Right, I'm aware of the sqlite part.
13:55 pdurbin I didn't know how modular it is but that's good to hear.

14:14 dataverse-user Hi
14:15 dataverse-user has anyone tried to update the docker version of dataverse?
14:17 pdurbin dataverse-user: are you talking about dataverse-docker or dataverse-kubernetes?
14:18 pdurbin https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-kubernetes has been updated to 4.18.1.
14:24 dataverse-user dataverse-docker

14:32 pdurbin dataverse-user: there's some discussion at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-docker/issues/19 from yesterday. I would suggest leaving a comment to say that you are also intereted in an updated version.
14:51 Benjamin_Peuch pdurbin: Sorry for the late reaction. The issue about WYSIWYG is the only one is the "done" column that's still open. I admit putting it there is debatable, but because it doesn't look like there'll be new developments in this area soon, and because this isn't a vital need for us, I put it in this one column.

16:05 Jim21 joined #dataverse
16:32 pdurbin Benjamin_Peuch: ok, I guess I'd suggest a third column. :)
16:32 pdurbin Oh good, Jim21 is here.
16:33 pdurbin Jim21: I'd love to hear your thoughts on these boards. :)
16:33 pdurbin Jim21: also, Herbert from DANS has thoughts on BagIt stuff. Something about ORE and URLs vs. paths to local files.
16:39 bricas Hey All. Is there a Solr compatibility note somewhere? I think we're on 7.3.1 like it says in the install guide, but is there any harm in putting the latest 7.x?
16:39 bricas Any info on plans for supporting 8.x?
16:54 Jim21 The missing piece to connect ORE and Bags is as Herbert is saying - ORE's describe files using their id, e.g. a DOI if available, while to find them in the bag you need to know the local file path they are at. DataOne started using one extra pidmapping file for this a while back - basically a list of ids(DOIs) and paths - that gets added to the bag.
16:57 Jim21 There are people who are thinking up alternate strategies (e.g. put the path in the ORE map), but I don't know that there's a good reason to change. (Too deep - the local path isn't really metadata about the globally defined file, it's metadata about the local instance of the file in the context of the current dataset/Bag . ORE can actually separate those two, but I haven't seen this discussed)
16:57 jri joined #dataverse
17:28 Jim21 pdurbin - in any case, I'm interested in what Herbert has to say on that topic, so please put us in touch or give me a pointer, etc. Thanks!
